All,
I have been hearing a lot on the forums about CADimage. I went to the site and checked it out a bit but I want to make sure I have a good understanding of it before I purchase it. Is the profiler tool a tool which allows you to create GDL in a 3D environment? Can you profile horizontally as well and vertically for the same object? Do the profiles accept windows/doors or are they strictly for creating objects? What do you all primarily use it for creating? It seems like a nice tool, I just want to make sure it will be valuable to me. Thanks for any input.

<T>I need to confirm that when migrating AC9 drawings that contain profile objects created by Cadimage 3D Profiler, those profiles will not be valid in AC10. I tried placing the version 9 3D Profiler apx in the add-on folder for 10, but AC10 add-on manager indicated an out of date file. Is this just a matter of waiting for an update from Cadimage or something else?
Thanks again,
There will be a Profiler.lib for AC9 & AC10. Should I rename the AC9 Profiler library to Profiler9.lib so that each library will separately be recognized? Or is there another way to do it?
Thanks,
Scott,
This is the exact question I had regarding Archifoma profiles at our local introducing archiCAD 10 seminar....The answer I got from the presentation is that there should not be a problem but your experience now has me concerned.

I hope you find a better way than having to resort to recreating all your profiles.

Anyone out there know if ArchiForma will behave like this when migrating to ArchiCAD 10???

Thanks,
Um.... that's not very good. In fact, for an expensive add-on, I think it's not really acceptable. I'm hoping they can do better.

That we are even discussing this points to the complete dearth of info from Cadimage. Could someone there please speak up about the migration situation and schedule for tools updating (XP and OSX)?

As we all know, many projects (particularly the kind that require add-ons) have life-cycles of years. Archicad gets updated more often than that => therefore we really need good, solid migration methods and tools that don't quiver and die every time an upgrade to the main software comes down the pike. Sheesh.

Dan, Rakela & Chazz,

Cadimage sent me a personal email explaining how to remedy my situation, which I had posted below. Their remedy did correct the main problem, and for the most part everything now seems to be working relatively fine (except for a couple minor display and folder issues). It seems that the secondary vendors are playing a little bit of catch-up now that 10 is released.

I don't know the folks at Cadimage and the issues related to updating their add-on software, BUT I can say that I do like their products.

That's all I know for know,
The profiler only created objects. Specifically, it is an object that works in conjuntion with an add-on to allow you to extrude profiles (drawn as fills and saved into a library) along a path.

As an object, you cannot place doors or windows in it.

To me, it's mostly a trimwork tool, useful for cornices and such, but Archicad 10's Profiled Beam and Wall tools largely replace it. The benefits Profiler maintains are:
- better rounding in plan (fillets and curves)
- as an object, is easier shared on multi-file projects

I will also add the following:

with Cadimage profiler you can make a profile (cornich) at one go in two different plans (e.g horizontal and oblique). see picture
