I've been very happy with the 17" screen in my PowerBook. I keep the navigator on the left and the info palette full height on the right leaving a nice big square space in the middle for drawing. I find the wide screen to be a much better arrangement. Naturally I prefer working on the 23" Cinema display when I'm at my desk, but this laptop screen is so much nicer than the big 20" monitor that I paid $3000 for in 1991 that I'm hardly going to complain.

PS. Jefferson, I figured I might as well answer here.

<T>Greetings

This week I did not work because of computer misbehavior and now feel that the only solution is to have back up, two machines so as to never be stuck again. Not really in a position to shell out the money for the type of machines we favor right now I am looking at the HP ZD7000 laptop/desktop replacememt. It is being offered for 6 months no interest and no payments. It rates high in all the reviews I have read but that's not always the whole story............

I am moments away from ordering one of these. Has anyone heard of or seen one of these in action with ArchiCAD?

Comments? TIA</T>

What are the specs?

If these:

Product: HP Pavilion zd7000
Price: $2,618 list
Specs: 3.2-GHz Pentium 4, 512MB DDR SDRAM, 60GB hard drive, DVD+RW drive, four USB 2.0 and one FireWire port, 17-inch WXGA display, 802.11g, 9.3 lbs. system weight

(from the PC Mag review, http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1370900,00.asp)

then it sounds OK.

I knew I would forget something, Nvidia go5600 128MB dual monitor capable.

I have emailed a couple of other 17" lqptop users privately to get their impressions about working at the 1440x900 resolution. It has been suggested to me that this willl prove difficult with ArchiCAD. My instincts tell me that this would all be about palette arrangement and that in fact I would like the horizontal arrangement but certianly I would welcome comments on this as well.
it will suffice, use a separate monitor for more screen real estate

 I am free!

Yesterday I gave a 5 minute presentation to a contractor friend on the tailgate of pickup at <S></S>warp speed <E></E>what otherwise would have required a scheduled meeting, an hour of "tidying up", making coffee, etc., etc..........................it's as if I got raise!

I will not hesitate to embrace newer technology on the 3 year cycle from now on.
