3d Connexion Navigator

I just got a 3d Connexion mouse which is supposed to work with AC11 (under the view tab/navigation extras).
Has anyone used it? Any tips on how to make it work?

Does this device allow you to navigate in a 2d window, or just 3d? Also, can the buttons be programmed to work with AC?

space navigator only works in 3d..
As for the speed, have you set you 3d view options to open GL?

Since I'm doing this new book, I shook the 3Dconnexion people down for one of their Space Navigator Personal Edition thingies.

Here's the plug:

This device represents a breakthru in smooth 3D navigation. After just one day, I'm using it in Google Earth, SketchUp and Archicad already and I see that it is linked to operate in many other 3D programs. Because I use a Wacom tablet mouse, it is not really compatible with 3D navigating and have never really experienced the kind of flying around in Archicad you all can probably do.

This is just a great little tool, very heavy and satisfying, and cheap.
A winner.

I get lots of things in here for free and only recommend the best stuff to you guys.

Besides, in this case, it is only their $50. product,
not their $300. product that I am liking in the first race.

Does anyone know if the 3D Space Navigator works on a G4 Mac? The system requirements at www.3dconnexion.com say it needs a dual-core Mac system. I'd like to use it for presentations on my old Powerbook G4, which has most of the same guts as the Core2Duo's, so I don't know what difference it would make. It also says it needs Mac OSX 10.4.6, which I exceed. Please, if anyone's tried, let me know!

I just received this 3d Connexion navigator.

it works perfectly in Artlantis, but in Archicad it only rotates the entire model around a point (same as orbit command). I want to fly around like in the explore model function. Is this possible?

You can customize the device behavior for any application in its control panel . In addition, ArchiCAD has a menu option that reverses all functions to give you either an 'object' or a 'fly through' approach. Look in your View menu for a menu such as that in the attached screenshot. If it is not there, modify your Work Environment to include it.

I recommend increasing the speed of the device in its control panel for most applications.

They're just trying to hog the posting counts. There's still no answer as to whether the 3D Navigator will work on my G4. Of course, now my G4 is having stability problems, and probably isn't long for this world. If only it had a 3d Navigator before it died! Oh, the humanity!

Works fine on my G4 (old dual 1GHz mirror door). Your Dell looks like a "slightly" faster machine, so perhaps not the worst thing in the world for your G4 to have died.

Thanks, Karl! I have no worries with the Dell workstation at my office, but it's a little hefty to be carrying to clients' offices. The G4 Powerbook 17" is my personal computer, and often the only laptop I can get access to on short notice. The big screen works great for informal presentations, and the video is still very quick, given its old age. I'm saving up for a Mac Pro for home, so I'd rather not invest in a new laptop right now.

I will be ordering the Navigator soon!
