An update to that large file- was caused by some corruption which caused the placed files layers to be added to the base layers of the layout. Not only that but they multipled many times. There were thousands of layer sets in the file. I wasnt able to delete the layer sets but deleting all the layers cleaned up the file.

<T>I have a plotmaker file that has been taking forever to load. (sometimes it crashed plotmaker)
File 70Mb (20 drawings with cache stored on disk not in layout, no linked files included)

As an experiment, I imported it into a "new and reset" file - (still 70MB)
Drawing by drawing I deleted then saved- each time the file size would drop by about 500K

finally I had a completely empty file- file size 65MB!!!!!!

What on earth is going on here????????

the "empty file" compresses to 1.6MB if anyone wishes to view it
(HINT TO GRAPHISOFT)</T>

send me a file to ivan.jovanovic@bdsp.co.yu , and check if you have any hidden layers or images in it.
Hi John, I have had a look at the file in plotmaker, and with an ascii viewer. The discovery I made was that the book's layer combinations are taking up most of the file's size. I have not counted how many combinations you have, but it is well in excess of a thousand. I cannot fathom how or why you would use that many book layer combinations. The naming convention used to name them is odd also, you have "formal issue (north)2" then "formal issue (north)22" then 222, then 2221, then 2222, then 222221 etc etc...

Perhaps what has happened, is that over the time you have been using the program you have added these additional combinations, but I suspect something else is going on... For me to sit down and put in each one of these combinations would take days.

I suggest you create a new file, set it up the way you wish with your masters and title types and each time you start a new document, open this first, then make a new file.

What this will do is open a fresh file (like a new and reset) but with all your favourite settings but without the additional options of the previous file you worked on.

If you have any questions feel free to email me directly eelko@optusnet.com.au or call Arkitech in Aus.

...and to keep your PMKs tidy, check "Visible Layers Only" when exporting from ArchiCAD to PlotMaker.

ahh. i was using a fill in plotmaker today - when i went to choose my fill pattern, i noticed that there were hundreds of duplicate fill patterns in there . . . possibly one for every drawing placed from the same archiCAD file. seems it duplicates attributes . . .

i'll post a screenshot tomorrow when i get back into the office.
