<T>Has anyone on a Mac experienced ArchiCAD refusing to "Hide" after using for some undetermined period of time?
I can't seem to replicate the condition that initiates the problem, although it is possible that it occurs after opening a new instance of ArchiCAD. ArchiCAD is the only problem application so have to assume that it is an ArchiCAD problem and not a system fault. As has just happened, even quitting ArchiCAD and restarting the program does not always fix the problem.
I've reported the problem locally but they can't replicate it.
I'd like to hear if anyone else has experienced it at any time.</T>

yes, just the other day - and i'm using the final release build now. i have a feeling it's not necessarily a GS thing: it typically only rears its head when i have more than one version of AC running. and by that i mean 10 & 11 or 11 & 12. gut feeling is that it's a WIBU conflict . . .
When it happens, ArchiCAD will not hide by any means. You should also be able to move to another application and automatically hide the one you left by holding down the alt (option) key when you click on the other application's window, but even this fails.

The other side of the coin, which is worse, is that ArchiCAD sometimes fails to show again after being hidden. Bizarrely, it still responds to key commands, but nothing happens on-screen and nothing will make it reappear. In some cases the only way out is to force-quit.

Thanks everyone.... I don't feel so alone in the world.

Unfortunately, (although it's more of an annoyance than a "big" problem) it happens to me quite regularly lately, with occurrences seeming to be increasing.

I have also had one experience of ArchiCAD "disappearing" even though some key commands seem to do something unseen and I have had to force-quit.

This problem predates both Leopard and Tiger. I couldn't rule out that Apple is partially responsible for the problem, but I've never had this happen in any other application. Others report a similar problem with some Adobe products, but it still leaves the impression that this is specific to certain developers, i.e. not a universal issue.

I don't recall noticing it before Leopard. Must be getting old <E>😉</E>

I do think this is the developers' problem and not Apple's since most programs work perfectly with hide, and, as far as I've seen, better with spaces than ArchiCAD does.

definitely pre-leopard. in fact, i seem to recall pre-tiger too . . .

i have seen other reports about adobe products not hiding either, but i've had no issue with them: archicad is the only app that this has ever happened to for me . . .
I also notice this:

If you are working in another application, say Safari, and then launch AC or another instance of AC and then switch back to safari, ArchiCAD rudely interrupts and comes to the fore instead of launching in the background like other apps.

Do you think it's related ? I find it annoying. It could be that other apps do this too but few take as long to load as AC so I'm not as apt to notice it.
