I've been away a while so I haven't posted the information I received from HP.
It seems HP has not provided the driver for the HP DesignJet 500 because it will become an obsolete model. My solution has been to delete Mavericks and go back to the previous OX operating system which I will have to use until the printer dies. if anyone else had this problem I would like to know & maybe my problem will help someone else in a similar situation.

<T>I am using HP DesignJet 510 and printing at 36 x 24. I measure the dimensions on the layout sheet in ArchiCAD and all is fine. When I print the scale is slightly smaller. A line that should be 6" is printing at 5 11/16". I have margins set to zero, Source is Entire Layout, Fit to Page 100% and am using Layout Margin.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?</T>

Can you show a screenshot of your Print dialog? Are there any red lines in the preview image?

I'm not all that familiar with your printer, but is it possible your printer has a manual override in it that affects the scaling? Some issues like this are fixed via the actual printer's onboard display, rather than in ArchiCAD.

The red lines in the preview mean your layout margins are too big (small?) for your printer.

Best way to set it up is to make ArchiCAD retrieve the margin settings from your printer.

Go to your master settings, and under the Size drop down, select 'Import Settings from Printer'. Choose the corresponding size from there and it will enter the correct margin settings into the master for you. This adjusts the blue line bordering your master layout, so if you have titleblock information (including thick lines that bleed over, so make sure true line wight is on to check), you will need to make sure those are inside them.

This should get rid of the red lines and as long as there is no override on your printer itself, all should be to scale.

Once it's all set up, create a Print Publishing set to make the process more efficient.

Cheers,
I did everything you said to do, there are no redlines but it is still not printing at the correct scale. The printer is the same as I've always used. This problem only started happening recently after I loaded ArchiCAD 17 and Mavericks. I appreciate your help but I am still having a problem.

No. Printer Margin & Layout Margin makes no difference. I'm only getting 95% of the size it should be. I'm thinking of setting the layout sheets at 105% so I can print scaleable drawings even though construction drawings always say "do not scale drawings". I'll try some more work arounds today & see if I can solve this. Thanks all for the advice.

You might try printing to PDF, and then sending that PDF from Adobe Reader to the printer at full scale, just to check where the problem is occurring.

I'm grateful for all the advice. If I print as a pdf it still prints too small. I'm taking a pdf to our local printer today to see if it is my HP Designjet 510 that is causing the problems. If it is, the HP tech will be coming here to fix & calibrate the printer.
Thanks again!

I just spent an hour on the phone with a HP tech that installed new driver for the printer. Seems that in the process of upgrading to Mavericks something no longer worked properly. Thanks to everyone for all your advice. It was not an ArchiCAD problem at all! If anyone out there upgrades to Mavericks and has the same problem I hope this thread will be helpful.

I spoke too soon. After trying for two hours to load the correct drivers for the Design Jet 510 for Mavericks the tech from Hewlett Packard still cannot solve the problem. He says Apple has not supplied printer driver for Mavericks as yet. I'm considering going back to the previous OSX operating system. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

I am having the same problem. From the 'net it seems to be a Mavericks issue which isn't getting fixed as quick as it should I wish I could rewind the OS but as a newcomer to Apple I'm a bit stuck.
