Processor looks great.
Memory looks good too. But if you are doing some heavy rendering and stuff, plus have many apps open at the same time, you may want even more, some guys here are using 15-20 GB of RAM.
But it is you who will know, 8 GB is quite good.
Of course you will need to have a 64-bit system and 64-bit AC with that to be able to fully utilize it.

<T>Hi
I am probably upgrading to Archicad 14, and I will have to change my workstation.
I need to be shore thats going to work and I have not seen references to the selected video card browsing in the archicad page.

I am looking at a Dell with a Intel® Core™I7-930 (8MB L2 Cache, 2.80GHz), 8GB DDR3 SDRAM a 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs, ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB GDDR5.

Will this specs let the Archicad 14 work at its best ???
Any other queries I should take care off?

I appreciate your help.</T>

Sounds good but be careful with Graphics cards.
We are having less than good results with mid-high end gaming cards.
GS recommend workstation class ones if you can afford them (Quadro etc) - look at the recommendations.

Thanks for your help.
Graphic card is precisely what I am more concerned of. Seems quite riscky not to be 100% shore.
Since the ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB GDDR5, may have some concerns, I have been looking for other options on dell, coming up to:

intel core i7-640M Dual Core 2.8 GHz 4 MB
windows 7, 64 bits
8.0 GB DDR3-1333Mhz Sdram
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M with 1 GB

Does this look OK?
Lazsonagy: what do you mean with "64 bit AC"

Thanks

I mean the 64-bit version of ArchiCAD.
It can handle more than 2 GB of memory which is the limitation of the 32-bit version of the program.
The latest AC versions have 32-bit and 64-bit versions on Windows, hopefully there will be a 64-bit version on the Mac too with AC15. A development preview version of it has already been made available here on AC-Talk.

Be sure to check out the Dell M6500.

I wish I knew more about the future of CAD hardware and software.

How long will it be before I don't need much of a computer since I will be logging on to a super computer to use ArchiCAD and all my other programs?

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/ ... le-chrome/">http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/09/death-hard-drive-cloud-google-chrome/</LINK_TEXT>

Every time I get to the point where I need to make an investment in new hardware or software I find myself very frustrated with Graphisoft because they never give us any idea about the direction they will be taking ArchiCAD.
