G5 Macs are years old, Intel-based Macs are newer, faster, and have multiple cores which AC12 now takes advantage of.

Then, how is it that my Macbook Pro with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, and 2GB of RAM seems to have the issue of being very sluggish. to the point where I get the beach ball in between operations?

I think there were some discussions on the forum about AC12 sluggishness on Mac. Try searching for it.
