<R>I'm not sure if I am getting quicker or just becoming more impatient
I have some BIG projects on the go and would really love to hear suggestions on the perfect match of processor and video products to make this PC get up and sing hallelujah!!! (every time that is)
Entity selections in model space have a big delay and Internal Engine navigation & layout book imaging / Photo Render imaging is a slow thing. I'm not expecting Disney Pixar related performance but am afraid of upgrading without experienced users' recommendations.</R>

Hi Dennis,

What are the exact models of graphics card and processor? You can get low and high spec i7 processors, as well as low and high spec 1GB graphics cards. There will be a big difference in performance between each type!

Also, use the polycount 'goodie' to find out if you just have too many polygons in the model. Perhaps you can simplify and turn off any high polygon elements whilst navigating and editing. (Door handles, trees & 3d people tend to be the main offenders!) Too many elements set to projected rather than symbolic will slow the floorplan down considerably as well.

It is worth noting that the internal engine will never be smooth to navigate whatever your spec of machine as it is mainly powered by the cpu which just isn't optimised for 3d.

There are some further recommendations on the wiki -
Thanks for your reply Peter,
My specs are :-
"64 bit with 8 Gb RAM"
"ACPI x 64 - based PC'
"Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 - 2600 KCPU # 3.40 GHz" and
"ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series 1 GB"
I hope that gives you something to go on?
I'll have to check out that Polycount goodie but it wasn't in the Add-on manager. Do you know where to get it from please? I am also wondering if I need a solid state c drive?
Much appreciated, cheers, Dennis.

Hi Dennis,

Your specs suggest that you have quite a high spec processor and a older middle spec graphics card, so it may be worth upgrading the graphics for a boost in performance.

Personally I don't believe you will see much improvement by upgrading the processor, unless you go for one with more cores, but this is still quite expensive to do at the moment.

Anyone else have any comments?
