I believe the java requirement is only for the installation of the program. As far as I know, once it is installed it makes no difference what version of java is on the machine.

It sounds like once AC9 is installed, update java to the latest version then install AC12.

With an older java installed as prescribed in archicad WIKI

"ArchiCAD 9 with Vista

Will not install

*

Problem: ArchiCAD will not install correctly.

Solution: Uninstall Java. Re-install java that came with ArchiCAD 9. Perform a custom install of ArchiCAD which excludes Graphisoft Shell Extensions from both the ArchiCAD and the Plotmaker install. Remove Wibu installation that ArchiCAD 9 performs. You may have to uninstall and re-install Wibu 5.2 if you have already done this."

Now Archicad 12 wont update (the latest hotfix), and it complains "could not create Java virtual machine"
Is there a way the to get around this? I need to have Archicad 9 installed for old project files, as our customers seem to be reoccurring.

I understand that if I uninstalled java and reinstalled the newer version it would work? I would then have to reinstall the old version...
