topic Can't kill AC 12 in windows 8 in Installation & update

<R>OK, off the top I know I am running an unsupported system combo, but circum$tances dictate this combo for now. It requires new hardware to run the new versions anyway, so first step first.

I am hoping someone can assist regardless.

I have installed AC 12 on a new laptop, including all updates running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. [My only choice and certainly wouldn't do that agian!] When it's working it is pretty damn fast and impressive. Occassionally it hangs, [haven't yet determined what is the cause but hope to define and avoid it soon.] In the meantime when it does hang, nothing I try can kill it!

Task manager, even the more robust one in 8, no matter which direction I approach it from, it doesn't touch it. I am forced to close all programs and restart the computer. I have read some internet info about getting at it through CMD prompt but not had any luck and not wanting to get too tricky, as in over my head there. I cannot find another way to shut it down.

I have tried running the program in compatibility mode, which sets it XP SP3. Same same results. I'm stumped.

I am hoping somebody has had some issues similar and can offer even some suggestions. Any input is very welcome. TIA!</R>

Just a suggestion:

to solve something sort of similar I upgraded my Windows to the Ultimate version, which includes 3 months of MS phone support.

[EDIT] If you want to get true XP compatibility, load a virtual XP OS. Look it up online, there is help on doing this. BTW, not the same as compatibility mode - way better, but slows your hot machine down some.
