<T>Since iTunes was updated earlier this month, ArchiCad has been running slow (particularly when you select a library object from the toolbar). Apple discussion forums indicate I am not the only one with this problem.

Has anyone found a workaround?

I'm running ArchiCad 9 (2172 Int Full) on a G5 Dual 2G PowerMac (system 10.3.9)</T>

Really? Searching for "Archicad", I found only one person besides you with that problem.

I cannot say I've had any problems with any of the updates affecting Archicad. I'm not sure how iTunes would affect Archicad anyway (it does not affect OpenGL or any other Apple systems that I am aware of)

Has anyone else responded? Have you heard anything from Graphisoft? Are you sure it's iTunes related and not the Disk Utility you mentioned?

just a quick question . . . when was the last time you repaired permissions and the like . . . ?

OSX 10.4.4, iTunes-up-to-the-hilt, 4 open archiCAD sessions, a plotmaker for good luck, mail, safari and many many more all running on an old G4 powerbook = no problems here mate.
I'm having various issues with my computer; but when I went to repair the permissions, the disk utility would not complete the task. In checking various other forums, I found that iTunes 6.0.2 broke the disk utility. Remove iTunes and preferences and re-installl 6.0.1

To answer a few of your posts (and thanks for your interest) - The problem is evident on a G5 running 10.3.9 (my other computer running on 10.4.4 is running fine). Looking at other computers, The problem appears to be localised to 10.3.9.

I run Disk Utility once a week (and more frequently if updating software). TechTool Pro 4 is also used regularly.

The iTunes/disk utility issue is remedied by following the info in the Apple Forum announcement

(<LINK_TEXT text="http://discussions.apple.com/message.js ... 37#1505537">http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1505537#1505537</LINK_TEXT>)

With regard to other posts about this potential issue I came across 2 posts on the Apple Forum whilst searching for assistance with the Disk Utility problem. I have retraced my steps and see they were both posted by the same person "Mollymae":

<LINK_TEXT text="http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 6&#1546016">http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1546016&#1546016</LINK_TEXT>

<LINK_TEXT text="http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 5&#1546475">http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1546475&#1546475</LINK_TEXT>

I hope this clarifies the matter.

The question still remains why ArchiCad is running slow? - but if there are only a few of us with the problem it may be a hard one to track down.

Out of interest, I would like to know how archiben opens more than 1 ArchCad session at the same time? Doesn't it automatically close each solo project when you try to open another?

If you duplicate the "Archicad" executable, you can run as many sessions as you make duplicates.... as long as your machine can handle it.

I'm not sure the solution for a person already having system problems is to install more questionable software.

It was just a suggestion...
Anyway if he makes multiple copies of the AC executable he has to take in consideration those copies when he runs an updater (erase and duplicate again) so that everything works fine.

yep. that's what i'm doing. i usually only run two concurrent sessions, but yesterday was a special case . . . throw BGarchiCAD in there too and i actually had 5 on the go!
