Archicad 18 - installation and run error

Hi,

I just downloaded archicad 18 - student version, and I got my serial number just fine, but when the installation continues, just at the end, I get an error message "GXMedia.dll not found. File must be available to run the application!" When I try to run the software, I get the same error and then it just exits.
I tried un-installing and re-installing a couple of times, and still the same error.
A little help would be appreciated!

Try disabling your antivirus before installation. Just a guess.

I tried installing with antivirus turned off and repairing the installation again with AV off, still the same error.

Another trick in addition to disabling the AV would be running the installer in administrative mode:
- disable your AV again
- right click on the ArchiCAD installer
- run as administrator

Traian, you are probably using Windows 8 N or KN - these don't have Windows Media Player integrated.

I had the same issue and after installing this Microsoft patch everything was fine:

For Windows 8.1 N use this one:

Hi guys, do you know any patches for Win Server 2008 R2 with the same problem? I'm having the same issue.
The "GXMedia.dll" was installed correctly, but ArchiCAD doesn't recognize it.

I have the same problem... but same step before...

With win 8.1 enterprise, the installer doesn't start... I update the Java, try to run as administrator, in win 7 mode...

Some idea?

Hi, I had the same problem with ArchiCAD 19 INT and ArchiCAD 18 SPA in Windows 10 Pro N.

How to solve the GXMedia.dll not found error in Windows 10 Pro N:

1. Download and install Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10.
2. Profit. That's it. No more steps.

Graphisoft should fix this error. Many Windows in Europe doesn't include the media pack. Or at least, be more verbose about how to fix it.

Thanks for notifying us. We are investigating this issue.
Until then, we recommend to download the Media Feature Pack for the N and KN versions of Windows 10 prior installing ARCHICAD, as Guibuu mentioned in a previous post.

Hi, few days ago Windows 10 got its first big update (Windows 10 Pro N x64 version 1511, OS compilation 10586.3), and since them I can't start neither ArchiCAD 18 SPA 4020 nor ArchiCAD 19 SPA 4006 in Windows 10. The old "GXMedia.dll not found. File must be available to run the application!" returned, so I tried to apply the "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10" update (Windows10-KB3010081-x64.msu). But sadly, this time this update doesn't solved the problem

I've tried to:

Launch ArchiCAD (GXMedia.dll error appears).
Install KB3010081, restart, launch ArchiCAD (GXMedia.dll error appears).
Install KB3010081 ("already installed" message appears), repair ArchiCAD (GXMedia.dll error appears at the end of the process, when it tries to launch ArchiCAD), launch ArchiCAD (GXMedia.dll error appears).

Windows 10 updates can't be stopped (and it's not recommended to block them anyway), so help, please!

Try to run the ARCHICAD installer in "repair" mode, then re-install the latest ARCHICAD update. Maybe one component of ARCHICAD was blocked by your virus checker or by some Windows security mechanism. Sometimes those misfire.

Tried it, with no result.

Also, this is what I have done today:
Windows 10 fully updated

Downloaded and installed Windows10-KB3010081-x64.msu (already installed it yesterday) and Windows10-KB3010081-x86.msu updates

Restarted PC

Uninstalled ArchiCAD 19 (that's funny, even in the uninstaller the GXMedia.dll error appears, but the uninstaller worked)

Restarted PC

Disabled my antivirus (only have Windows Defender, I have disabled real-time protection and cloud-based protection)

Installed AC19-3003-SPA.exe (GXMedia.dll error appears at the end of the process)

Restarted PC

Installed ArchiCAD-19-Update-4006.exe

Restarted PC

Launched ArchiCAD 19. GXMedia.dll error appears, ArchiCAD cannot be started

Edit 2015-11-19:

I have bypassed this error by returning to an old Windows compilation (Settings > Update & security > Recovery). My Windows version is now Windows 10 Pro N (version 10.0, compilation 10240).

Now ArchiCAD 18 & 19 works as expected.

I'm sad to say this, but currently ArchiCAD is NOT compatible with the last version of Windows 10 Pro N.
