For your Work Environment, open the Work Environment, click the Import... button, then try searching at: /Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences. You can search more broadly, but the search takes more time.
I can't say whether Archicad would have backed up your work environment with the 'Backup & Restore' option as I have never tried it.
But I always make a habit of 'Exporting' my work environment to a know location so I can 'Import' it at any time in the future or even use it on other machines.

As for your favourites they are stored internally in the PLN so they should still all be there when you open the file (same with model view Options).
You can save your favourites out so you can load them back in to another file as well though and I find it is a good idea to do this if you want a standard set of favourites across all your jobs.
According to this Archicadwiki article ...

http://www.archicadwiki.com/Repair%20ArchiCAD

there should be a "Backup" folder created in your Archicad folder.
thanks vistasp, but those folders don't exist in OS 10.8, thanks too Barry, but it doesn't really help me here. i did the repair but can't find my work environment. i'm going right to the horses mouth and call tech support. i'll let you know what happens.
yep, me thinks so. but, mine was of course, not straight forward. i actually had to go into the time machine and restore a folder, and i'm sorry, but i can't remember which. tech support had to get me there. the moral of the story is, export a copy of your work environment to some other place on your HD so you have it when you need it.
