<T>ArchiCAD 9 on WinXP Pro/SP2 will hang if I do copy action (Ctrl+C).
I don't know why it is so, but I know how to solve this problem:
1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
2. Go to processes
3. Select explorer.exe
4. Click on End Process button.
5. From File Menu Click on "New Task (Run...)".
6. Type explorer.exe & click "OK" button.

After that Copy action in AC works fine.
I'm not sure but maybe this problem comes with some WindowsUpdates. But if it comes with them (is system bug), I can't understand why only AC hangs? At the same time wouldn't say that problem is inside AC, because at first there was no problem. Have also checked for some conflicts with other programms (after formatting computer), nothing found.

Has anyone similar problem?

p.s.: sometimes when AC or PM hangs (not ctrl+c problem) on WinXP I do same above described actions and in some cases restarting explorer.exe helps!

p.p.s.: in subject of topic I have wrote "...hangs for 50%", because if I minimize AC9 window and after 3-5 seconds restore it, AC will work, but "copy action problem" will still remain.

p.p.p.s.: All above looks as "Crazy Story".</T>

It's not that crazy, it just happened to me about 30 minutes ago. I thought it might have been because I clicked my mouse to deselect the copied elements too soon after "Ctrl-C". Thanks for providing the solution Zohrab.

By the way, I did try minimising then maximising again, with no joy.

This is an often discussed problem on Windows ... in the archives here every few months.

It is an issue with the Windows clipboard, and your solution is not really advised (end task should be a last resort for any process).

Generally, any one of the following will remove the wedge that is locking up ArchiCAD:
- just open Word or Excel and then close them (what works for me)
- just open Windows Explorer and browse to another folder (reported by others)

Cheers,
Hello Karl,

thank's for feedback.
Yes, I know that ending explorer.exe task isn't really advised, but I don't know any other method that can fully solve problem and leave AC user in rest. Your and other user advices solve problem only temporarily, when solution to restart explorer.exe solves it permanent (until you reboot computer).
You say: "end task should be a last resort for any process". I recommend to restart explorer.exe at once after running computer (before running any application).

I have tested your (and other user) advices.

MsWord or Excel method
1.1. If AC9 hangs after copy action...
1.2. You say: "run MsWrod or Excel to go round the problem!"
1.3. I run both programms separate and together, but no luck to solve problem. But if I run Word (or Excel) while AC9 hanging and then also run MsExplorer AC comes to life. But this do not solve "on copy action hanging" problem. Next time when you try to copy anything you must repeat all actions.

2. Browsing in folders of MsExplorer is easier and faster, but again with no luck to solve problem "permanent".

p.s. Advice for Win2000 users: if AC 8,8.1,9 (or PM) hangs on Win2K and you can't do anything to save your project, in some cases your last chance is to end RunDLL.exe task from Task Manager Dialog!

Piotr

Fortunately (or maybe not) the first time I tried to copy items to clipboard today I had AC hang, so got to try your solution. Start>Run>Cancel did bring the system back to life, I was able to deselect my items, but when I tried to copy again my machine hung once again.

So it seems that this is a good temporary measure, but not a perfect solution.

Karl. I believe you have mentioned this before.
Is there a reason why this should be the l<S></S>ast resort<E></E>?
