Surfaces display issue

Hi,

I'm having a problem with one particular file that's displaying surfaces all wrong.

See the attached image. The bottom image shows how this particular surface typically displays, and top other is in the problem file.

Both pictures are from files started from the same template, today.

Any help much appreciated!

We've had this issue before on ArchiCAD 19/20 a couple of times. In one project is was due to an issue with a stair, once deleted the surfaces went back to normal. Another project it was due to an issue with an object. We just deleted all objects to test and then if that was the issue we started deleting objects a few at a time until we found the issue.

That was really useful. It turned out there was a random couple of objects in the file on a closed layer. Got rid of them, shut the file down and re opened it and it was fine.

A lesson in keeping my models clean!

What is it I wonder about a corrupted object file that could make certain surface materials not display properly elsware?

Hi guys,

This is a typical 'Far from Origin' symptom. If you see that your textures get fuzzy, and/or the green selection box in 3D is not where the edges of the element is, then you can be sure that there's at least one element in your project that is far from your model (like at least ~5 km far).

This usually happens when you start working far from the ARCHICAD origin, but accidentally leave something close to it. In this specific case, either the objects on the hidden layer were far from the rest of the model, or they weren't scripted/saved properly, and their object origin was actually far from the model (that happens a lot, mostly because of objects created by Add-ons).

Thats exactly what happened! For some reason there were a couple of objects literally miles away from the main model.
