We have done some preliminary investigation on this issue, and please help us out with some info:
From the logs we suspect that there are some special mouse driver settings where this occurs. Please check if in your environment this could be the case or not and get back to us in this thread! Thanks, k

Not sure I can adequately describe it.. but similar problem here.

Seems like if I start PANNING when the refresh of the existing view has not finished.. it will start the pan... then jump back to the old view (and stay)...

It is easy to tell by moving the mouse around that the refresh is NOT COMPLETE because the X: Y: feedback palette is "frozen" until the refresh is complete.

This happens a lot...
so i know they have a lot to do, and we are probably a few. but this but makes work almost impossible.... how much longer do we have to use 19 or suffer the slowness and stutter to utilize 20? I obviously dont know the process they have to go through but seeing as they released a hotfix for a major mac problem, given its been a couple months maybe help us out too? I love archicad and just want to be able to be productive with out so many extra clicks.. after using the favorites in 20 its hard to go back to 19..

Has there been any progress on this. It is making Archicad impossible to work with. Extremely difficult when your selling the advantages of BIM to your office.
Below spec of a new computer.

Precision T5810 Xeon E5-1650v3 3.50GHz, 15MB
32G 4x8GB 2133MHz ECC RDIMM
256GB SSD + 1TB SATA 7.2k 3.5"
nVidia Quadro K4200M 4GB
DVD RW Intel AHCI Keyboard Mouse
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Windows 8.1 OS Media
3 year Next Business Day Black
MS Office 2013

We have tried the same project (not a complex file) on 4 different computers and the problem is the same for all. We have tried the obvious, turn off shadows in 3D window, removed any tree detail. It makes do difference.
It does not appear to be project specific either. We have tried projects that worked fine on AC17&18 but are almost unworkable in AC20.

The problems are as others have described, externally slow regeneration in 3D view, object snap delays, object selection delays, regeneration delays.

For two days we are working on new AC20.
All architects in our office are suffering from very noticable decreased performance.
Operations like panninng, zoomimg works much worse comparing to AC19.
Second issue is rebuilding sections/elevations/3d - not working completely!!!

That's why we've made up a decision to go back to AC19!!
Poor AC20
I have also experienced some odd delays. For example, a door schedule was displaying only the titles. After checking a number of settings (which were all fine), it suddenly regenerated. (It took maybe a minute before it regenerated on a very small project. Only three doors!) Background processing was on the whole time. It was also set to auto-update.

Ok .. We seem to have found the problem. But we do not seem to be able to apply a quick fix.

The problem for us lies with AC17 textures (surfaces) in the model. If we remove the AC20 migration library the AC17 textures will all show up as purple checker in the model. If we reload just the AC17 textures, the model looks fine but cannot be worked on as it is to slow to regenerate. The only way we have found to fix the problem is to start a new AC20 and copy and paste the model into the new project and reassign any AC17 textures.
As you can imagine this is unworkable in reality.

So the questions are ;
Is this a know issue with AC17 texture and is there a way to deal with this.

Many thanks

Regarding the textures... I was having the same problem, but it showed up as CRASHES for me... One of the ways I dealt with it was to EXPORT a list of the textures, then painstakingly figure out which ones were unreasonably LARGE and save a copy of them at a lower resolution.

I don't know what the magic SIZE is... but I tried to keep textures under 1mb. You'll have to the judge on where the renderings suffer due to file size.

If you copy the whole folder to an archive place on your drive, then you can edit the original folder and leave all the names intact (then you won't have to re-map)...

Note that above, I exported the list from he attribute manager so I could tell which textures were actually being used. You could just take it upon yourself to do ALL textures in the loaded libraries.

BTW... most of my file reduction work was on my own textures... but the same applies for those that came from GS...

I'm not sure I understand.

the problems we are having are with textures migrated from AC17. The largest file in the AC17 textures is a png at 339kb. The largest jpg is 82kb. Surely these should not cause a problem.
I have tried reassigning all the textures to AC20 equivalent textures (painstaking does not describe it). This has made no difference. If I just delete any texture based on AC17, it still does not improve performance. It feels more like AC20 has an issue dealing with the AC17 file structure, AC18, 19 & 20 seem to use a 'surface catalogue' where AC17 has a more traditional folder with sub folders.

This really is a huge issue. To open a drawing and regen the 3D window is taking 3 minutes. Any change made within the 3D window after the initial regen still take 2 mins, most impossible to work with.
