Hi,

I have found a bug in Archicad 9/Plotmaker 9 font handling routines. Some fonts will cause the programme to go into a loop/hang at launch as listed below. The offending font may be in either the Classic Fonts folder or in the OSX fonts folder, the error is the same.

No other applications are affected in this way by the fonts which cause ArchiCAD 9 to hang.

Below is a copy of the hung loop generated by ArchiCAD 9 sampled using the Activity monitor. It may be of some help to Graphisoft.

The problem occurs on all 3 of our Dual 2Ghz G5s and on our G4 MDD Dual 1 Ghz OS10.3.4 and 10.3.5

If anyone whould like a copy of an offending font, please post here.

Regards,

Nick

2004-10-05 08:59:56.352 sample[412] Couldn't start c++filt for C++ name demangling
Analysis of sampling pid 382 every 10.000000 milliseconds
Call graph:
290 Thread_0e0b
290 start
290 _start
290 main
290 CCFM_LaunchApplication
290 PCFragPrepareClosureByName
290 PrepareClosure
290 InitializeConnections
290 InitializeOneConnection
290 0x5bc9e8
290 _initialize
290 0x5b2468
290 0x61975c
290 0x5bcd8c
290 0x5bcff4
290 0x64c25c
290 ATSUGetIndFontName
290 FOGetName
290 _eFOGetName
290 FOGetNameInternal
290 _XHNDL_trapback_instruction
290 _cvt_fp2unsigned
290 _cvt_fp2unsigned
290 _cvt_fp2unsigned
290 GetProcessInformation
290 CPSPBGetProcessInfo
290 CopyUpToNBytesFromTagAndAddNull
290 __CFDataInit
290 _CFRuntimeCreateInstance
290 malloc_zone_malloc
290 gPCFMClosureUniverse
290 _XHNDL_trapback_instruction
290 _XHNDL_trapback_instruction
290 _XHNDL_trapback_instruction
290 Thread_0f03
290 _pthread_body
290 TS_exception_listener_thread
290 _XHNDL_server_handler
290 TSExceptionContinue
290 szone_free
207 __spin_lock
207 __spin_lock
83 __spin_lock_relinquish
83 __spin_lock_relinquish

Total number in stack (recursive counted multiple, when >=5):

Sort by top of stack, same collapsed (when >= 5):
_XHNDL_trapback_instruction 290
__spin_lock 207
__spin_lock_relinquish 83
Sample analysis of process 382 written to file /dev/stdout
Sampling process 382 each 10 msecs 300 times

Hi,

I have got around the problem using Fontographer 4.1 (classic) - which was given away free on some cover disks years ago.

I opened the problem font in Fontographer, saved it out as a Fontographer “Fog” font file, and then exported it again as a Mac TrueType font suitcase file.

This new font file appears identical to the original but it works with ArchiCAD 9!

Regards,
