OK, I assume too. But my IT manager and me are wondering what we can do to resolve the situation? remember, all other softwares work fine!

Yes I have administrative rights to install and delete printer drivers and software.

Yes, I was using basic PRINT option from File menu in ArchiCAD (not PlotMaker).

Yes I have tried printing to PDF and it worked but it wouldn't resolve my problem because I still can't print 3D and it's cumbersome and time consuming.

<T>It is a first time I see a bug like that. File/Print command won't work. It accepts ONLY default settings and default printer, any changes made to printer settings are disregarded when confirmed by pressing OK???

Any suggestions? My guess is that it is a hardware problem.

PS: And, YES, I have reinstalled AC, and it won't work on AC 8.1 either.</T>

It is HP755CM.
It isn't just one printer problem. It's ALL printers problem ( we have like 8 of them), it really accepts ONLY default printer and its default settings. No paper size and orientation adjustments.
It all depends how the printers are set up.

If they are shared off a computer (connected to another computer, and shared) then your rights have to be set for them at full control, and you have to be Power user on that computer.

If they are set up directly at the network, with their own IP addresses, than it is also a matter of access and control rights.

Being an Administrator on your computer does not make you Administrator on any other computer.

IT guys usually don't understand whay would you need to do something because they don't have the basic idea what it is that you do, and are extremely jealous of their godlike status ... watch out ...

Problem SOLED! Solution:

Our IT have tracked the problem and reported it for our forum. This should be in PROBLEM/SOLUTION section or ArchiGuide.

Regards here it goes:
______________________

User experiencing problems selecting and setting preferences for printers within ArchiCAD v9
All printers were displayed as being available to the user, however when a printer was selected for use within ArchiCAD the dialog window would close and the selection would be ignored.

The printers are shared from a server which handled all the print jobs. When a user prints the job is spooled locally by the locally loaded print driver (which is checked against the server for the current version). The job is then handed off to the print server who controls the interaction between the job and the network printer.

1. Checked server for current printer driver - OK
2. Check current driver was being deployed to workstation - OK
3. The user was given admin rights to the workstation (and thus full rights to the local printer driver configuration - still experiencing problem
4. Added user to ArchiCAD security group and gave group full control of printer on the server - problem corrected

Note: This is the only program loaded on any networked workstation that requires this elevation of privileges to be able to print correctly. All other applications worked fine with the existing printer setup and permissions (which is also the recommended and default arrangement). This appears to be an issue peculiar to ArchiCAD.
