3d/2d coordination

I hate to keep harping on this but, after building a model for presentation I spend an enomous amount of time trying to coordinate the 3d model with the floor plans. Then changes later on are very time consuming. If the design is out of the ordinary I spend a lot of time reconciling the 2 worlds. How many others struggle with this?

1. If the plans came right from a model cut and still preserved the benefits of the current plan window that would solve many of my issues.

I just hate wasted time and effort. The way things stand now there is still a lot of it.

In my book, there is no "presentation" model and "plans" model. Doing the work this way belies the very essence of ArchiCAD and kills all the advantages.

Doing it quick and dirty at the beginning makes you sweat later.

All 2D stuff has to be derived from the model. Not the other way around. It is the correct model that will create benefit. Always do it as precise and accurate as possible at that moment. Never cut corners - whatever may seem easy now will be paid for later.

Rethink your working method, my friend. Trust me, I NEVER have the problem you write about ...

I'll post several of the projects I'm working on to show what I mean. I alway model very detailed and carry that model through CD's. However the correct model does not always automatically produce the correct plans. The stacking of walls/windows above/canted walls,etc. make producing good looking CD's (in some instances difficult due to the management of layers. Can it be done. Of course. I just keep thinking of the 'new working invironment' and hoping.

I am with you on the virtual model concept after working on it for 13 years.

I know that you are, that is why I was a bit surprised.

Now I understand the problem better ...

I solve the stacked walls by placing on a storey everything that should be on that plan. Stacked windows are a bit of work; yes, the proper 2D can be cumbersome.

Sorry for reading the original post in the wrong way ... and BTW, your ArchiCAD mileage is greater than mine Just celebrating a decade this August
