I just crashed while trying to change a preference for Autosave in the work environment. Fortunately, the autosave had worked (to the normal place on my computer), so I didn't lose much. I thought that changing something here might help, but I am afraid to try it again, since I want to start a rendering before I go to bed.

I just looked at the Special Folders, and they are all on my local computer as well.

There are some missing library parts which are on the server and currently inaccessible. However, once the libraries are loaded it seems like ArchiCAD should give up on trying to load them.

As far as I know, there are no Xrefs or hotlinks. Hotlink and Xref managers don't list anything, and drawing manager shows only internal links.

This problem wasn't happening yesterday, so something has changed.

I am working at home on a copy of a model that is on our server. ArchiCAD keeps trying to connect to the server, which stops everything for about two minutes until I finally get a message that the server is not available. This happens with every autosave, plus some other times as well.

How can I stop this behavior?

Dwight- Thanks for your fast reply. I did a "save as", and also restarted my computer. No good, it still wants the server.

Do you suppose there is a preference somewhere as to where it is autosaving?

You can check the Autosave folder path in your Work Environment, under Data Safety. You may also want to check your Special Folders are all local too.

At a stretch you may even want to check your library and library cache settings from your Library Manager.

There <S></S>could<E></E> be a few other issues with Xrefs and hotlinked modules too. You using those?
Perhaps it has something to do with the new updated library that just came out from Graphisoft a couple of days ago.

R:

I experienced exactly the same thing on a file. Long pause of about 2 minutes while I watched the spinning beach ball (Mac) then the alert that the server is not available!

I checked the drawing manager and found about ten drawings with the red triangle exclamation mark. I made a copy of the file for safety and simply deleted all the drawings with that mark.

All is fine and no harm was done. Not sure what or how all that came about, but I'm back to work so I'm happy.
Yes, that was my next suggestion: Drawings or anything else that is externally referenced. Even if you opened another file via your Navigator or Organizer, you want to eliminate all doubt.
The Cache Library is accessible via File> Libraries and Objects>Library Manager...> Library Cahce Settings...

I think your suggestion solved the problem. There were two items in the drawing manager with red triangles (old views that I am no linger using), I deleted them, and I think the problem is fixed. At least, I went to autosave with no delay.

Just to finish up, I did look at my library cache.

My library cache is set on Internet rather than local, although the location of FTP cache is local to my laptop. Is this the way it should be? I have never changed this or looked at it before, so I assume it is set in the default way.

Is there any reason to clear the HTTP cache?

As Link says, anything external can cause this problem. This includes libraries, hotlinked modules, xrefs, and external drawings.

When you go off-network, you will always get warnings about such things not being available, which is OK.

There is an intermittent issue, which I have observed off and on as long as I've had a portable Mac, where AC just won't get the message that it's off network, and it's OK with you that it is. It wants to keep checking no matter what. The behavior I've seen is that when you switch apps and switch back to AC, big hang.

Some projects have it and some don't, and it comes and goes.

The one piece of concrete advice from GS involves a internal preference setting related to multi-platform networks. Look at the link in this thread: <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... ures#91712">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=91712&highlight=disablecrossplatformmountingfeatures#91712</LINK_TEXT>. I wrote it up here: <LINK_TEXT text="http://www.onland.info/archives/2006/08 ... atures.php">http://www.onland.info/archives/2006/08/disablecrossplatformmountingfeatures.php</LINK_TEXT>

Cache library is a feature so sick with bugs over the years that I would never use it.

A location manager type of feature would be very welcome, considering how many external files and resources are typically in use. I'm sure there's a wish around here somewhere for that.

James-

I have followed your suggestion and pasted the following into the "terminal" application on my Macintosh:

defaults write com.graphisoft.AC\ 11.0.0\ USA\ v1 InputOutput -dict "DisableCrossPlatformMountingFeatures" "<true/>"

I suppose I will have to wail a while to know if it makes a difference.
