<R>Hello,
Has anyone had trouble with the 3d view crashing in ArchiCAD 10? Seems to have the most trouble with the Open GL engine. If I change the 3d mode while viewing the model it ALWAYS crashes. This even happens part of the time when just using the Open GL. The entire system comes down. I have run the hardware diagnostics on the mac to make sure the ram was all good and it checks out fine.

Any ideas???
Hello Dwight,
I have the Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT w/ 256 MB in a PCI express. Is this a problem? If so, any recommendations on a replacement driver? I hope <E>🙂</E>
Thanks Djordje,
I ran the tests and the card doesn't pass. The 3d view in perspective doesnt even show up at the end of the test. Fonts are all messed up too, but the axon works fine. Weird how parts of the test pass and some fail.

Looks like i am in the market for a new video card for an Intel Mac Pro. Any suggestions on one that will pass? Looking into the Radeon x1900, but no tests results online so far.
Thanks for your help.
Before giving up on the card, I would contact Apple support. This is likely a software (driver) problem...and is something for Apple to address as the OEM provider of the card....AppleCare and all of that good stuff...
I talked to a couple people there and one of them let me know that the card wasn't meant for higher end graphics. I told them that I didn't consider fonts in any program to be higher end, but that didn't seem to make a difference. On a lighter note - apparently the Radeon X1900XT works well. The most up-to-date driver that apple had didn't work any better and together with the fact that it is an entry line card will probably convince me to go with the other card. Thanks for the help and I will let you know if Apple releases new drivers for the 7300. I will also update the Video card chart with the results of the x1900.
Thanks for all the help and beware the 7300GT for now!
Thank YOU for keeping the community here posted. Lots of people here will be interested in this situation, and what you see with the ATI card.

(The comment about the nVidia being entry level is pretty lame and bogus of them at a certain level, given that it has 256MB RAM - and way less powerful cards with less memory pass the OpenGL tests just fine. I did find a post on a game programming forum where people mentioned that this card/driver did not respond properly to certain commands. I guess we'll see if Apple keeps their head in the sand, or does something. But, look forward to hearing how the ATI card performs.

OT: on the Artlantis forums, your Mac Pro is running circles around all other configurations in the rendering benchmark that lots of people are running there. Astonishing speed. Have fun with it!

Cheers,
The issue is related to the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card. It does not deal with openGL very will and has been crashing on many programs that use opengl.

There are two things that you can do to work around it.
1) believe it or not if you limit your memory down to 2 gigs max (seems to be related to a 32 bit to 64 bit addressing issue which is why if you go down to 2 gigs it works), it mitigates the crashing issue and does not cause the crashes to occur.
2) get a different video card any of the ATI cards seem to be fine.

Nvidia is has always had a bit of an issue with mac drivers and it seems like they are holding true to form.
