This was my first computer when I was in college. I was learning Fortran and my girlfriend was taking Key-punch and short hand.

Not much. I was using it to do hydraulic calculations for automatic fire sprinkler systems. Back then, we put in the data on the computer and dialed up on a modem to access the software program. HydoCalc I think was the name of it. 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,401,402, 501,5,5,6,6,7,7, .....
(node points in the most remote design are) if you got one node point wrong you would have to start completly over. I was drawing with my new Parallel Bar on paper. We were just trying out mylar. Little bits from the Pentels snapping all around the office. Lot of cursing I remember. The boss made us buy our own pentel leads ( or what ever you call it) until we got the hang of it. The old guy in the corner would not give up his ink and cloth. We were sick all day from the diazo machine in the same room, cigarets smoke, burning coffee sludge in the pot, and Bart who would never come in to ask questions until he had worked up a good sweat in the shop. aah... to be a "white shirt" again. Those were the days, huh? My back still hurts from the hand-me-down chair I had that tilted to the left. I remember having a disturbing epiphany about why the chair tilted to the left one day when I observed the the guy in front of me who's chair I had been given would always lean to the left real hard to "relive himself" after lunch.

I like having my own office now.

using archicad on a Mac SE30 ( abeit with additional screen) wasnt a lot of joy. But today, I still feel like a need a faster computer - waiting for the next powermacs
