G5 Memory Recommendations

<T>Aside from the obvious and expensive choice (i.e. cram it full with 8GB), how much RAM is adequate in a G5 duallie? I have been running 1GB in my PowerBook with no problems but then a 1GZ G4 doesn't chew though nearly the amount of data those power hungry G5's can.

The questions are:

Is 1GB enough?

Is 2GB a lot faster?

Is 4 that much faster than 2?

etc.

Does anyone have actual comparative experience, or failing that, experience with lower RAM configurations?

TIA,

When i first got my g-5 it had 1G ram. archicad ran fine. i then got 1 more G for a total of 2 and noticed a moderate speed up. since then i have run archicad say on a rendering and you can monitor processor/memory use and while processor would be at say 100%, ram would be a most 50% used. therefore i decided not to follow through with my original intension of getting a total of 4G ram.
I have had my G5 since September, thinking that I can always add ram, I started with 1GB. I spent the money instead on the 128mb video card to run (2) 19" flat screen displays. Switching from a G5 Powerbook, I find that the 1Gb is fast enough, noticeably more so than my G4 PB. I often have a number of SEs open with the 3D window, and find the regeneration time of 2-5 seconds very acceptable. The 2D regen is virtually instant. I would expect another Gb would be faster, but I am quite content with the speed.
there is a wonderful utility I keep running at all times, called iPulse at http://www.iconfactory.com/ip_home.asp It is $12,,, you can see in real time how memory is being used, much more detailed that the system cpu meter for knowing what is coimg on. I have 1.5 gig and it works fine, however, I will notice at times I need to close some programs down as it will start paging out (slowing down) while generating a linked section with a lot of detail. I should get more memory, but 1.5Gig is satisfactory. I would not go with less. The iPulse can give you a very good feel for what you need.
