I'm in 8.1. The first project was created in 8.1, the 2nd in 8.0, but opened in 8.1. Now that you mention it, I don't recall having this problem in 8.0.

Taking this a step further, I just opened someone else's 8.0 project in 8.0. Initially, changing transparency in 3D from off to on, then rebuilding resulted in the glass becoming transparent. But then reversing the process, no effect unless I select the glass, open tool settings, ok; then glass becomes opaque. The only difference is the glass transparency is the default 90%, I've adjusted the transparencies to various settings on the other 2 projects.

I am regenerating the hidden line fly-through, and had to select the doors (in 3D window), open & close, to get the doors to appear correctly. I have run across a few others in ArchiCAD Talk having problems with doors appearing as solid blocks, but haven't had time to follow that thread.

<T>I'm trying to get my material "glass" to show up as both transparent (in the model) and solid (on the elevations and sections) by using "3d window Settings_Transparency in Shading: on/off." This worked in v.7 but not in 8.1. In 8.1, I cannot get the transparency to turn solid in the sections and elevations.
If you are looking for transparency in rendering only, you can set the transmittance of the glass material to 49%. It will then appear opaque in section/elevation and hidden line views.

I don't recall ever being able to get different settings in 3D and S/E. Maybe I was missing something in 7.0?

We do need the transparency to work in hidden line as well.

Then, AFAIK, you will need to change the setting in the 3D Window Settings dialog for each situation.

That is what I was able to do in v.7, but it isn't working in 8.1. Instead, we're having to use different layer combinations for clear glass and solid glass.

I just checked to make sure. It's still working as it always did for us. I ran the same elevation both ways. In one the windows were transparent and the other not, as expected.

I am at a loss as to what is causing your problem.

This is getting weirder....There's a delayed reaction to the change of Transparency in Shading in section view. After switching the transparency on or off, I have to actually select the glass in section and then look at the glass settings (ctl-T). Then, after closing the settings window, I rebuild the section. That is the only way I can get the glass to change in the sections! Then again, I may be crazy.

I have verified ajo's operations in the same TW project. She is on a PC, I am on a Mac G5 as the team leader. As I change transparency in the 3D window setting from off to on (as well as the other way), the glass changes transparency only after selecting the glass (walls), opening the tool settings, clicking ok w/o making any changes, then rebuilding the SE or 3D window.

I have even taken this a step further. While generating a 20,000 frame movie of this same project (saved as a .pln) in black & white, some doors with glazing would sometimes appear as solid panels instead of as french doors. Just before creating the flythru, if I select the doors with glazing, open the tool setting, click ok, the doors generate correctly. I originally thought it was a setting in the doors, but now I am perplexed. I will try this on a different 8.0 project.
I have just verified this problem on an 11mb file created in 8.0. In both projects, the windows are created with walls using glass as the material. Neither the 3D window or the SE in hidden line mode will change w/o opening the wall tool settings. The 3D shaded mode toggles correctly.
