I've worked for a couple of small Mac based firms now and have always used outside printing companies for larger sized prints. In office I've used both Epson and HP. I like Epson better. I've had a couple of both and I think Epson is more reliable and easier to setup/maintain.... We use the in house printers for proofs/red-line and presentation purposes up to 12"x 18".... I've found that I can send off a PDF and get a set of prints back nearly as fast as an in-house printer could print the set..... That last comment is based on old experience. New printers/plotters may be faster...

Steve, thanks very much for that....... my existing Mac is so old now I need to update. Also my printer, a Canon inkjet, just went crazy.
It can't be fixed, and you know what; no modern printer will talk to it!
Damed if I do, and damed if I don't
