which may or may not help you. the other thing you can do is reset your plotter to factory defaults. then in the manual somewhere it should tell you the IP address that it ships with as default.

you can then go in with the terminal (see the link above) and change it. remember that to do this you need a computer on the same sub-net, so you may have to temporarily configure one of your machines to do this . . .

<T>We are in the process of getting rid of all our OS9 Macs and in the process we are trying to get Plot Flow X to connect to our OCE 9400 which is connected through an apple talk network. When I attempt to configure the Plot Flow X the only options I have as far as connectivity are TCPIP and USB. The other options (Appletalk, Modem Port and Printer port) are greyed out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TCP/IP is your best (only?) option for PlotFlow.

You just need the IP address of your Oce. This will depend on your local network settings. A common local plotter/printer address could look something like 192.168.1.35:9100, where the first three sets of digits (separated by dots) are the same for all devices in your local network, the fourth (35) is the unique address of the machine, and the part after the colon (9100) is the port number. (There may be more complications depending on the set up of your machine. You may need local expertise.)

There are other tricks, like setting it up as an LPR printer, or using FTP to send print/plot/pdf files directly to the server. But these do not work with PlotFlow.

Unfortunately the people who setup our oce didnt give us the IP address or the IP to connect to the Jet direct type (not a jet direct but a generic option) So there is no way to actually set it up with Appletalk?

There should be a way to print out the print server's network configuration which will include the IP address. I gather your Oce does not have a computer (PC) print server. Why can't you contact the people who set up the machine? You may need to get someone else to help you if they can't. Perhaps you could purchase a JetDirect yourselves.

What is your print server and how does it connect to the 9600? What connection options does the printer have?

Appletalk (AFAIK) is not an option.

If you can connect directly with an OS9 computer you could set one up as a plot server running PlotFlow.
