If you do not otherwise need to work with a 3D model for these "old" floor plans, you might look into Piranesi which can paint up 2D plans (and much more.

If you model things (trace walls over your 2D walls, place furniture, etc), then you can render an axo Top view and do some post production in Photoshop (or Piranesi).
Here's an example of what you can get with an Axonometric view...

...vs 2d Plan view (with the use of Cover Fills; Pensets... and Symbolic Cuts for elements that don't support Cover Fills e.g. Walls).

I use an expanded penset that has groups such as FURNITURE (green); FOLIAGE (browny green); HARDSCAPE (mostly greys for concrete and pink for clay); JOINERY FITTINGS (pink); METAL FITTINGS (Silver); EXT TIMBER (Dark Brown); etc.

This way, elements mostly get assigned to pens that reflect their actual colour (concrete=grey; foliage=green; etc), and where colour can vary, e.g. furniture, a colour is assigned to a group's purpose (green for all furniture).

And for less of a "presentation" look...
By a simple swap of a Penset, in a different view or drawing on a layout, I can get rid of - or simplify - all the colour, if need be. I can also not show any fills too, using the View or Drawing's "Model View Options".

And since AC13, you could even use image fills for more "realism".
