Seems like I used to be able to make my upper cabinets transparent so you could see what was below them. Can you still do that in v.12? Am I missing something here?

Of course.
Set "Parameters > 2D representation > Fill Type" to "Background Fill"
and "Parameters > 2D representation > Fill Background Pen" to "0 (transparent)"
