i would be very interested to see what would be the strategy to pulll this form off ?

this is what i understand and dont understand

1. Slab with hole OK
2. Multiply slab OK
3. Add Shell for SEO CAN YOU GO INTO A LITTLE MORE DETAIL PLEAE !
4. Hide Shell and there you go OK put this on a new layer and turn the layer off.

Thanks.
ok i had a few minutes to try this.

for the shell part.
i was able to first select a surface on the side from one of my boxes, to allign starting view.
then i created the free form shape.
extruded the shape using the shell option 360 degrees.

placed it on the a new level.
used SOE solid object editing to subtract the new form from the boxes.
turned it off and BINGO there she is !

my only problem is.
i would really like to be able to go to a section view, draw my shape exactly for the extrusion and then make my shell.
But i cant work out how i can make a good profile in section and then use that for my shell extrude. at the moment it is just all loose in 3d view mode.

thanks guys.
ok now its working.
i selected the spline line, first, then the shell tool and NOW it will let me select the profile.
i got the extrusion at 90 degrees and then. clicked on the new shell extrusion and FREE ROTATE 90 degrees.

Getting closer.
strange thing archicad 15.
i did my SOE cuts and the model shows up perfectly in section but no changes show up on plan ?
a form this line, can really only be formed using solid object editing,,, so how do people cope when they have this complex form created and then cant produce one single usable plan for it ?

any work around suys ?
mmmmmm thinking again, i dont think my alternative solution will work ?
the intersection between crossing beams will be too sharp.
in the SOE model the top of the beams are also cut and curved to fit the SOE object, therefore giving a smooth usable top surface.

the thinking continuous....
the thinking continuous....

i was thinking about the plan problem....
if before SOE was used, the core elements on plan were edited and cut to shape.
then on the general plan, the SOE wouldnt matter to much.

but when i think a little more...
if there was for example a drop in the top surface of 3 meters down, that would cut through possible a lower internal slab.
if SOE wont give me that information and i dont think it will, then .... SOE is unusable for anything else than pritty 3d modelling.
and the other users are right, SOE as it stands is a disgracful walk in the opposing direction to BIM !

i cant really believe it......

You can try the option of starting the first/base shape as a square shell with "Skylights" (it works also with subtracted slabs) as empty openings and then the SEOs will show on plan.
