Thanks, Petros. The explanations are quite detailed--until you get to the last one: "6. It is also possible that what happened is unimportant, as it has no real effect on the operation of ArchiCAD."

It does have an effect (with my screen redraws) so I believe it's "something". I've turned on the "Interupt with Error Messages" and "Write Report" preferences and tried to recreate the error with no luck. Screen redraws are still extremely slow, so I'm at a loss at the moment.

Dave,

Have you tried modeling only parts of the building to isolate the problem? A binary search might do the trick; i.e. model the upper half of the building, if no errors occur then the problem is in the lower half etc... Of course if the error does occur, you will have to check both halves. And if the error is pervasive you may have trouble excluding parts of the building. You could also test by layers, find and select, and by the heavy marquee to get different selections of elements.

I merged the project following Eric Batte's method at http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=973 . Unfortunately, it didn't help. The problems are in several of the 8.1 library casement windows. I'd rather not have to delete and re-create all the windows (obviously). Any other ideas?

BTW, I can't find the explanation someone gave a few weeks ago on how to format text in your post as a link (as I could have done above). Can someone point me to that post?

Try turning on the preference to write a report. There is a slider that controls how verbose the report is. The results are still a bit obtuse but it can narrow down the problem. It help to frequently clear the text log that the report writes so you can more easily distinguish what was written during the last operation. HTH.

For those following this saga, I sent Link the pla and he found no problems with the file. So our guess is a corruption in AC somewhere. I'm going to reinstall AC--a pain since the latest CD needs the "+" update. If I trash my AC folder, and install a fresh version, will the install overwrite all the files not in the AC app folder (since I'll be installing an older version)?

Tom,

I'm glad to hear (sorry!) there's someone else experiencing this. Maybe this will help track down the culprit. I thought I had discovered that it only came up when my ArchiTerra mesh layer was active, however today it happened with the layer hidden. When the AT layer is active I get probably 30 such error messages in succession. Today with the layer hidden, I only got 3 or 4, but it happened twice. Are you using AT? Or do you have an AC mesh layer active when it occurs? Is there anything else you have discovered trying to solve the problem? It's more than a nusiance to me--it makes re-gen of the 3D window a huge pain, as I have to OK each error window.

My solution to this problem was to install a little freeware app called "Push The Freakin' Button". You can easily program this app to digitally push any button on any dialog that comes up. I use it for every dialog in any program that I consistently click the same button, such as "OK" on the error dialog you are talking about. I have about 20 different "watches" set up.
