<T>How to make something like this in AC14 ?. No time to play around with Rhino, Bonsai, etc, want to stay in AC. Not really a tensile structure, more like a sock stretched over metal hoops, see also sculpture structures by Anish Kapoor. In your field, Dwight ? Would Ralph's Objective help me here ?

It could be done with a couple of meshes and some SEOs.

1. Make one mesh to form the outer surface.
2. Scale and lower a copy to cut out the inside.
3. Cutaway the tail section with a profiled wall or beam.

The mesh to cut the inside can simply be de-elevated to make an approximate cut or the contour elevations could be adjusted for a more precise model.

Petri's 'Mesh 3d' object works well for this. Try the updated version on this thread as it is cutplane sensitive, and has a few extra tweaks -

<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... p?p=172715">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=172715</LINK_TEXT><E></E>

I did a quick 15 minute test to check it works. My tip is to start off with very few control points and only add extra ones once you are in happy with their positions. It starts getting <S></S>very<E></E> slow once you get past 30 control points, so you will have to be a little patient while editing.

If Graphisoft ever introduce native freeform modelling into ArchiCAD, I hope it doesn't slow the system down as much as this object does!

Another alternative could be to use the amazing 'Mesh Generator' object by Masterscript, as demonstrated in this thread -

<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=33818">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=33818</LINK_TEXT><E></E>

Who said that ArchiCAD can't do freeform?

Great, thank you. Making progress on Matthew's method, and checking out Peter's links.
