<T>I can't seem to be able to snap to my trace reference worksheet. Is there a way to do this/activate the snap? I've tried to find out how to do this in help and I can't.</T>

Snapping to your trace reference should work automatically the same as snapping to your main model.
Make sure you don't accidentally have the "snap to grid" enabled ("S" is the usual keyboard shortcut to turn this on/off).
Yes - that would be the problem.
A PDF will not be treated as vector type lines so it will not have endpoints to snap to.
