topic Unfolding surfaces/objects onto floor plan in Modeling

<R>Is it possible in Ac to unfold surfaces of more complicated 3d object (i.e. cone) onto the floor plan, to be able to measure it? Or is there any Add on that lets us do it ?

in other words:
<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.cad-addict.com/2009/05/sketc ... model.html">http://www.cad-addict.com/2009/05/sketchup-plugins-unfold-your-model.html</LINK_TEXT>

I just want to draw a quite big wardrobe (making a 3d model) with lots of different sized shelves. But eventually I'd like to have each element on the floor plan to measure it and then send the drawing to the carpentry. I thought unfold option could do the trick but maybe You have any other ideas?

thanks</R>

Had to do something like that sometime ago and what I did was

1. go to the 3D Window
2. selected "Show Selected in 3D" to only show that part
3. used the Look to Perpendicular item to get the view needed
4. save the view as 3D Document and dimension there.

This is a very interesting question!
Really,is there a way to get unfolded flat developments from 3d objects?
I know this is a more specialized fuction and used in software like solidworks and inventor, but it would be a valuable asset if there was a way to have that in AC.

Ejrolon,

It won't work when the object is slanted..it workds only when objects are perpendicular or parallel to the 'floor plan'.

The 'Look to perpendicular' command should give you a view perpendicular to any surface you click on - even if it is not perpendicular/parallel to the floor plane (i.e. a roof plane).
Sorry, my mistake.
I just didn't know the 'look to perpendicular' option.
It's clear now. However it would be nice to have a 'one click' option and then have all these objects Ejrolon showed on the floor plan..

Anyway, thanks for help guys.
