How do other folks show wall mounted extractor fans?
such as the type found in domestic kitchens / bathrooms

Is there a GDL object out there somewhere?

Yes, there is.

Besides - if you really need a particular model shown, model it and save it as a window. Works like a charm.

Can you give a heads up on where it is hiding? is it in the standard intl library?

There should be usable stuff in the standard lib under Mechanical.

Look for the info on how to make a window in the Reference manual. It has been explained many times here, too.
