Yes, I stand corrected - zoogdesign is the best Revit forum.
If only you guys cut the praise down a little it would be even better. I mean the forum ... It is normal to praise what you chose, but it is better for the thing that you chose and for yourself to be open eyed and see the shortcomings, too.
Yes, Arabian Oryx; there is also a desert resort (highly recommended, IF you can afford it!) called Al Maha - designed in ArchiCAD BTW (so that I don't have to delete this message, duh ...) where one of the activities is to revive the local antelope population (Al Maha means just that in Arabic).

The architectural solutions are QUITE interesting and eco friendly, as well as suited to the climate and the building tradition here.

Visit it, if you can. Worth every dirham!

I apologize for attacking Djordje.

My point is still valid. He is trying to start a so-called "balanced" discussion of the products without so much misinformation and yet he is at least as guilty as anyone at ZDBB of spreading platform-centric bias. I didn't sart this inter-platform debate by coming here first. I am responding to a thread on Zoog as to why we are scared of Achicad. To be honest, there is very little concern over Archicad there or elsewhere. Keep in mind that the thread at zoog was started because of AC's recent press release bashing Revit. I think it is safe to say that Archicad and Revit are equally "scared" of each other.

As with most things, we as humans get tied up in what we eat, wear, buy, sell, whatever and always think our way is better than the other. If we didn't think this, we would be constantly stuck in an analysis paralysis state.

It is good to confront our assumptions. That is why this debate is good. But it is anything but balanced. It is getting there with help from Djordje, Bill C., muttlieb and others here and at zoog. I know that both products benefit from the comparison/competition...I can name several enhancements to Revit 6.0 that came as a direct result of previous users of Archicad that suggested alternative methods.

I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about Archicad, but as a knowledgeabe user of Revit, I am unlikely to give much credence to the users here that are mistakenly trashing Revit without a clear understanding of it...in fact outright lying about it. It is clear they know little of Revit, so how can I possibly expect them to make a balanced comparison or opinion?

Why don't we all tone down the rhetoric and concentrate on constructive criticism? I think it is unlikely we will all switch to one or the other, so it seems that "balanced and informed debate" is the catch phrase du jour.
Exactly.

I started a thread or two at both forums in order to help me decide which program to choose. I never intended it to turn into a 'my program is better than your program' debate. It is not helpful when people bash the other program unless it is a useful, constructive criticism that comes from experience. I prefer to hear testimonials and see real world examples from people that have experience using the program, whether it is ArchiCad or Revit. I think the cross posting in the forums is useful only if it stays civilized and doesn't turn into a shouting match. Maybe we can even learn a thing or two from each other.

Greg,

Your a good honest man that says what ya mean and means what you say. I also came here on that invitation, and already find myself in the position of having to appologize elsewhere. Hmmmm.

I wish I could have come here and opened a real dialog between us, but somehow, at least in my perception, a direct line of questioning pointed at me in another thread put me in a defensive position. That's just to much work for me. And I don't need to prove anything to anyone about Revit, because I am not the one slinging the mud either.

The truth is, Revit is in it's software infancy, and although some will say that it stands tall on the shoulders of others, I know that Revit is a young gifted child, with a very bright future. Rest assured that all the FUD being spread about it is either false, or being adressed.

I think I'll just stick with what I know, and forget the passive agressive skirt we tend to hide behind on the internet, get back over to Zoog and hang with my homeboys:).

(muttlieb, have fun, hope to see you back at Zoog)

No need to be on the defensive. No proving is needed - a question is asked, you answer it to the best of your knowledge. Nothing more.
Clearing misconceptions about each other are what you are here for and what we are at zoog for. If you don't feel like it, it's also OK.
