hi... Thanks for all the support. I'm not sure how to do that but a piece of information which might help in solving this is that I can see everything in the drawings except the said flat roofs. I tried to replace the composite with another custom one which I have created and now no custom composites appear in the list after I press command+T... So the problems are now 2

<R>All the wall skins disappeared in the drafting pane of my project. What I see is a 20cm wall with its hatching but render, insulation, etc are all invisible. They appear just fine in the layout book.

Can someone please share some light on how I can make them visible again?

A screen shot is worth 1000 words:

> Edited to add that I use archicad 16 on OSX.8.x</R>

Check your Partial Structure Display and set it to Entire Model.

Remember if you are navigating in the Project Map you must manually set all the options in the Quick Options (attached image).
When using the View Map to navigate then these options are saved with each view (and can be changed in the view settings if need be).
The drawings on the layouts are from the views which is why they remember the settings regardless of how you have them in Archicad.
Thanks sooo much Barry. That was it! Any idea how it decided to just change display mode?

This forum is indeed filled with helpful people.

Well unless you changed it manually yourself (which it sounds like you didn't) then you must have opened a view in the view map that has this set to core only.
Opening a view will set all of those Quick Options to whatever they are set to in the view.
Opening another view will re-set them to what is in that new view.
If you then go back to the project Map and navigate around then those quick options will remain as they are unless you change them your self.

That is why some people prefer to navigate in the View Map because everything can be set exactly as you want it for each view.
And you can see exactly what each view will look like when placed on a layout.

Personally I navigate the most in the Project Map and keep the Quick Options palette open so I can quickly change any settings I need to.
You still need the views in the View Map of course because it is those that you place on the layouts.
But the list of views can get quite long which is why I prefer not to use it for navigating.

Thanks for your response Barry...

I now have another problem. Some items (layers?) are hidden and even though I went to Document>Layers>Show All Layers, the flat roof (a composite I created) is not visible in any other view (including sections elevations and 3d), except the plan and the Layout book...

I really am at loss on what I am doing wrong!!! The application is beating me every single time!

Maybe some shots would help

The first image is how it appears in the layout book
The second how it disappears in the same section the the project map and the 3rd, the roof is missing in the 3d.

The problem is with the roof slab (not the core roof slab) both of which use the same composite.

AND the stair is missing (how could I miss the stair!!!!)

Select the drawing in the layout and right click on it.
Choose the option to "Open Source View".
This will open the section with the same settings that the view on the layout has.
If it all shows up correctly then it means when you are opening the section manually you are using the wrong settings - probably wrong layer combination or wrong partial structure display or wrong renovation filter.
If you are using the Project Map to open the section then these must all be set manually.
If you are using the View Map then you will need to open the settings for that view and change the options.

As for the 3D you could be looking at it with the 'single storey' marquee (thin marquee) rather than the 'all storey' marquee (thick marquee) and the roof and stairs might be on different storeys.

Or it could be a 'filter in 3D' problem were you have it set to a specific range of storeys or you have specific items like stairs and roofs turned off.

Sorry can't post a screen shot at the moment.
That was it!!! I inherited this project from a previous architect and I'm at loss. It's also the first weeks now that I am using archicad, after 5 hours of training (I was on vectorworks before).

It is indeed a very strong program but I'm still struggling with all its options:)
