Site place as a trace

Where can I learn about merging or importing a site/plan to relate my planning to. I am tying to merge a DWG/DXF file but cannot adjust the proper scale to anything. When using the "fit to page " command I get a shrunk image somewhere, often out of sight. Surly there are regulated steps to perform that right and easy.

Even though this tutorial from Digitalvis is for version 9, it still holds good for importing dwg files and creating terrains and roads.

Thank you Srinivas. So many steps are not matching my version that is really frustrating . But I hope that in the end of such struggle I'll be cleverer . Would you know where can I learn how to handle an opened DWG file in order to make its working units match with the AC project? Thanks again for your much estimated help and time.

If the units of AutoCAD drawing is not matching with that of ArchiCAD then you should look at ArchiCAD's DWG Translator. Here's more info on it

You might try Ctr/Cmd K and you will get this dialog.
You need at least one known dim.
Just keep adjusting until it matches.
Don't forget to go back to start point each time or
you can get messed up.

Hi all.

One way is to look for a known dimension on the imported plan and draw a line on the new plan of that length. Then compare that line to the dimension and adjust with the stretch command. I would use the longest dimension (x and y (if possible)) for best accuracy. And if there are other known dimensions I would at least measure them to see if they correspond or not.

I tried this sequence, no success. Should a scale be defined first or any other definitions needed in advance? through which commands should the DWG be imported? Any other matching to care for ? Thanks again

would you know the abbreviations for windows? That is the short link command? do I perform this moves after importing the DWG file? by what command? Open, File/File special.. should the scale or a scale be determined first? Thanks

When you merge or place DWGs they sometimes with have stray entities (lines, points, etc) at some far remove form the main drawing. this will cause the zoom to fit to zoom way out to include all the bits. If you have placed the DWG as a drawing rather than merged it you can reduce the frame to the area you want to see.

If the scale is off you can fix this with the "Resize" command (somewhere in the edit menu - the keyboard shortcut is command/ctrl+K by default)
