<T>Hello all, I'm a newbie to this site and also ArchiCAD 16, been using it for just over a week now! I've migrated from autocad so do have some CAD experience.

I need to draw a wall which has multiple steps along the bottom of its length. I have read posts on how to trim a wall to stairs, my problem is similar to this but I dont have anything to trim against. I have tried using blocks of walls and changing the bottom height of each block, but in 3D view the timber log cladding looks like a checker board and is not acceptable.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, I see this website being very useful now and in the future! Thanks!</T>

Hi,

You will need to read in the help file about Solid Element Operations but the basic idea is.

1. Draw the wall to the correct length and maximum height
2. Model using slabs or morphs the steps that you will subtract from the wall
3. Create a New Layer (X-SEOs or something like that) and make sure that the slabs are in that layer
4. Using SEOs subtract the Slabs from the wall
5. Turn off the SEO layer.

---
As a new guy take in consideration that SEOs are "live" if you move the wall and do not move the slabs then the result will change. The same if you delete the slabs or if you split the wall.

You can also do a search for SEO or solid element operations in the forum.

You can also create a Complex Profile for the intended side polygon as described in the following article:

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.archicadwiki.com/ModifyTheSi ... rOfTheWall">http://www.archicadwiki.com/ModifyTheSideContourOfTheWall</LINK_TEXT>

The articles shows how you trim the Wall top to your desired shape, but the steps are the same with trimming its bottom.
