Fireplace mantle niche

I've tried both seo-ing out a hole in the fireplace wall and tried empty opening, but still have the problem that although my mantel beam extends into the opening niche it gets cut off.
I must be missing the obvious?

Try taking the bottom of the opening a small distance below the top surface of the mantle.

You might need to make the beam's strength priority stronger than that of the wall - otherwise the wall will be trimming the beam.

Thanks for the replies.
I had tried moving the mantel up and down and opening up and down.
But......
Duh on my part.
I increased the beam priority and that did it.
Looks like there is an 16 minute delay from Perth to Santa Cruz, at least right now.
