<T>Hi i am new to archicad, i was originally taught Vectorworks however i want to move to archicad as it seems a lot more flexible for 3d modelling.
I was wondering if anyone could provide any help or direct me to some useful tutorials to learn the basics of the UI?
I have had a play with Archicad 15 and simple shapes is really straight forward however i want to look into other features such as adding materials, exporting etc. as i have learnt to work with Artlantis for detailed rendering and i am unsure how to export the file so that i can edit in Artlantis also if i need to do anything to the file for example when working with vectorworks i would class each part i.e. external walls so that in artlantis i can simply drag a material to the specific area.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as i want to make the most of this software to create professional visualisations</T>

The free Interactive Tutorials are probably the best first step in learning the basics of the program:

http://www.graphisoft.com/education/training_guides/

From simplest to more complex they follow in this order:

3 .Experience BIM
then
4. ArchiCAD Essentials
then
5. Advanced Modeling

Other Guides on this page cover specific parts of the program, such as Collaboration and Building Object Making.
Unfortunately there is no Guide specifically for Rendering in ArchiCAD, but the introductory guides give some examples of it.

You should then probably read the Presentation - Rendering and Multimedia forum of ArchiCAD-Talk as it talks about a lot of things that come up in that area.

There are also some materials and books about rendering, among other topics:
http://www.graphisoft.com/education/books/english.html

Specifically, Dwight Atkinson's books, LightWorks in ArchiCAD and The Artlantis Attitude, are pretty good sources on Rendering.

is it just me or is there a problem with the tutorials?
i see that many of them are version 12. are they still relevant for version 16?

Which of the files exactly do you have problems with?

To answer your question: yes, they are still relevant, although the interface may not be exactly the same as you will see in the video. There are new commands in menus, new Tools in the ToolBox etc.
But what you see in the videos should be pretty much work the same way.

OK, I will forward this to Graphisoft.
It may be that the file simply did not download properly for some reason, but if you tried that several times than I guess that is not the problem.

Dear Ray,

I could download and open the content of the package on my iMac (I checked it on Lion and Mountain Lion too). Please make sure the file size of the downloaded dmg is 648,1 MB.

Can you open any of the files (pdf, pla, mp4, dwg) in the package? Can you download and open other tutorials from the website, e.g. ArchiCAD Essentials?
What platform and which ArchiCAD do you have exactly?

Thank you for your response in advance.

i had a similar issue with vectorworks. turns out that a security setting had to temporarily changed on my computer.

i tried the same thing with your tutorials and it worked as well.

apparently something was set up wrong with the file to be downloaded. vectorworks said they "fixed" it so changing settings wouldn't be required in the future, but i don't know what they actually did.

a more pressing issue for me is that i applied for an academic license, and haven't received an answer. maybe it went to spam, where i found your notice. my trial version ends in four days. so i would like to get the academic version resolved. how should i go about resolving that.

thanks,
