THANK YOU GRAPHISOFT FOR COMPLETING THE PROFILE MANAGER TOOL TO ALLOW ONE TO DO CURVED PROFILED WALLS. THANK YOU!

<rant mode off>

Okay, assuming that works as well as they showed in that video, ( which is really how I had imagined it should have worked right from the start), my only hope is that the introduction of the 'Virtual Trace' ( which seems to be a CPU/processor taxing tool) feature is an indication that they have also tightened the screws some on ArchiCAD's engine for stability and speed. IT all looks pretty fast on those videos, so I would hope it is just as stable. At the very least, it's good to see that AC11 is now Vista and 64-Bit ready.

The Detail-in-detail and Cross-referencing views/Worksheet features were obviously long overdue. Ditto a proper fully-functioning Interior Elevation tool. Other than that I would hope that there are few other hidden improvements and upgrades not highlighted in the brochures and videos and I'll be ready to consider this a very good upgrade to the current version.

Looking ahead, I would only remind Graphisoft not to forget the likes of Stairmaker, an improved Render engine and interface ( both the internal Engine and Lightworks which should really have radiosity, at the very least, in the next version) especially with the texture and mapping controls, still improved NURBS-like parametric modeling tools ( ala lofting, Sweeps, revolves, ) or at least a Maxonform-like bridge to Rhinoceros; improvements to Solid Elements Operations control interface and Rotation in the Section/Elevation windows.

Looking forward to getting my hands on v11 though!

Well, if that is the case then I hope that Graphisoft starts releasing details of the features and upgrades of AC11 now. It is pretty frustrating to purchase an upgrade - especially with a one year upgrade cycle - and find out that one month after you install it is outdated and redundant because of yet another upgrade.

And even though the cycle is one year I will expect some dramatic improvements and better stability in the release. If they can't get their act together bug free, then I will have to look to Revit.

Not that I want to defend GS, but do you really think that Revit is bug-free, or that the improvement from version to version are really so significant?
I see it that way that every few years new version of the software should be revolutionary (like AC 10) - and between those versions - there should be few evolutionary version, that bring improvement, clear the code, UI, processes, etc., but don't turn software around. That is what I'm hoping for ACXI.

From a quick scan of the article it looks like AC11 will run better on the iPhone than AC10 does on a MacBookPro. I wish my German were better. I suspect the subtleties, that would be evident if I actually understood all the words, would be quite amusing.

I think we can assume that the date of the article is significant. So far the only apps that are expected to run on the iPhone are Widgets, and it isn't clear yet whether Apple is going to provide a way to install 3rd party stuff (I sure hope they do though).
Reading between the lines, from what I can deduce from the images in those links, I can only surmise or speculate that ArchiCAD 11 will primarily be a 'perfomance' upgrade with minor additions to the features list - specifically concerned with 2D drafting and design ("Virtual Trace" and whatnot). I see nothing in that toolbar (they've separated the Section, Elevation and Interior Elevation into 3 seperate tools:- whoop-de-do,....I mean...er......Yay )to lead me to believe that there are any much needed improvements to the 3D modelling toolset. Unless of course, said tools are hidden in the menu structure as opposed to the toolbars and palettes; but I highly doubt that.

In fact at this point I would even be willing to bet that certain tools, **cough*cough*ProfileManager*cough*cough** will still be incomplete and half-finished in ArchiCAD 11. Colour me unoptimistic, butI always knew this change of upgrade cycle from 18 months to yearly upgrades was a bad baaaad idea. Bad habits picked up from Autotable.

Much as I look forward to trying out this Virtual trace tool, I can't help but think that it will be one of those unnecessary new tools that duplicate already existing functions; or worse yet, one that should have already existed from long before. I hope they at least cleaned out most of the bugs.

Oh well, counting down the months till the inevitable ArchiCAD 12 screenshots leak out to the web again.........

....like I said Rob, "reading between the lines and deducing from the images". Obviously you know more, so I'll reserve the right to change my mind if I'm wrong when AC11 comes out and if it blows me away.

But like you said, I do know AC and GS from versions 4.5 - v10 and that history alone suggests that that's highly unlikely.

But we'll all know for sure, in a couple of weeks, wouldn't we?

I just came from a GS User's Group Meeting in San Antonio, TX, where Dominic Gallello himself was present for the "official" release of AC11, and I can tell you that although it is not a "significant" upgrade, it is definitely worthwhile and the improvements to AC will pay for the upgrade with the time savings alone. Two major work-arounds have been addressed: A <S></S>working<E></E> Interior Elevation Tool and the ability to link sections from sections and details from details. More later, gotta run to the airport...

Laura, what's the difference for you between int and ext elevations and why is the new tool so much better? In Revit, you can have two different graphical appearances for elevations, but there's no difference otherwise between int and ext elevations.

And what's the linking sections and details about?

I've gotta get a refresher course on AC -- I don't remember anything anymore
