<R>When I am using the subtraction in targets and operators, Which seems to be very straight forward and understandable, I get denied.

How does one subtract one solid from another, in my case roof from column.</R>

How are you being denied? Are you getting an error message?

Or does Archicad not do anything after you click "Execute"?

You'll probably also want to use one of the subtraction with extrusion methods.
If you have done a simple subtraction (as opposed to "subtraction with upwards/downwards extrusion") you will not see the effect if the roof is still visible. And the original extent of the object will be highlighted when selected, not just the bit that is left behind, I think (not proven).

ok i think i have almost got it. But I don't need the operator part which is the box elevated above the new hole in the roof. When I delete the box the hole fills back in with roof. How do I delete the box but keep the hole?

You can't. The whole point of Solid Element Operations in Archicad is that they are interactive. As soon as you move the operator, the target updates to that change.

Most people keep an "Operators" layer (usually set to "wireframe") for keeping operators that you do not want to see.
