Multiple Elevations in One Window

Is it possible to see all elevations of a model in one elevation window? I don't know about anyone else, but it would be great if one could work on all their elevations at once.

For example: it would be nice if one could draw an elevation marker BOX around their entire plan and see all the elevations in the same window.

If that isn't possible, can multiple elevation tags link to the same window?

By working on the model, aren't you already working on all your elevations at once?

Was there some specific task you were having a problem with?

You're correct. In the model, I do work on all the elevations at once.

Because the elevations aren't typically cleaned up enough for CDs, we copy their elements in the elevation window into lines and then clean things up.

That's why it would be nice to be able to see all side of the model in one elevation window. It would eliminate the need for copying and pasting the line elevations and switching between elevation windows.

I have to say I (and my 20 users) have been working with linked elevations for the last three years.

Personally, I've never once done the "copy and edit" thing with elevations. It's a little more hassle, but makes changes MUCH easier to deal with. I've had a few users try what you recommend and they ended up getting crushed by design changes that other people sailed right through.

Copy (one by one) all of your elevations (drawings) to one window.......

Defeating the purpose of the Building Information Model.

there may be some ease of editing reasons to go with all the elevations in one window but it is far outweighed by the lack of connectivity to the real elevation and any changes that come in the future. What is worse is you cannot rely on those elevations to be correct, in particular levels of the various element ( in particular the structure).
Group your individual elevations in your view set and it is not so bad. Also having all your elevations in one window takes up too much screen real estate and a lot of zooming in and out is required.

To me the great thing about working as a model and the subsequent views is the reliability that things are in their correct place.

Well, I do believe this would be a good to have feature. I felt the need for it now. Here in Europe there are lots of ancient constructions in need of rehabilitation. The original projects come as drawings and not obviously BIM.

I have many very detailed facades and plans. I traced the plans in CAD and now am doing the model by importing the XREF CAD document and using trace reference. All good for the plans, I magic wanded the polygonal walls and am now ready to set them to the appropriate height.

And here's where ARCHICAD will cripple my process. By forcing me to adjust each xref to each elevation, interior elevation and section. And then by forcing me to jump from each of these isolated model views and check them one by one to see if they match the ones on the original drawings.

As the future of Europe's Architecture will have to rely on rehabilitation and, consequently, on such methods, I would advise this feature to be created or some equivalent for the process!

Or do you already have a simple workflow for such cases?

Can't you just use original views xrefed into worksheets and the have as a trace reference in each elevation and update the midel to match.

For this type of work where walls are anything but straight and vertical I would probably use morphs just with IFC properties set to wall, windows and doors can be placed in 'dummy' walls just large enough to host the door or window. It would be excellent if the future versions of AC wool allow windows and doors in morphs of shells.

You can place these XREFs as Drawings onto one Layout, then you can use that Layout as Trace Reference.
