does anyone know how to create foundations in 10? are they made with the wall tool and profiler?

Yes.

And the Column tool for pad footings. This should be good enough for most basic footing situations.

This is a perfect use for the wall profiles. You can even get the separator lines for the keyways, etc. And you can put in the rebar if you feel so inclined.

This sounds great..I've always used the wall tool for foundations...one wall for the stem wall and a separate wall for footings. I like the idea of being able to do them as "one" wall profile.

I just have a couple of questions regarding this however as my AC 10 has not arrived yet.

Do you have to define a unique profile for each foundation stepping condition as the stem gets taller and footing gets deeper?

Are there any wall intersection issues when two different wall profiles meet?

I've heard that these new wall profile do not list their quantities correctly....Can you confirm this? (kinda' a bummer if this more efficient way of handling foundation conditons does not report correct concrete yardage)

The profiles can be made stretchable both vertically and horizontally. This should cover most foundation conditions with a single profile. It would not, however repeat rebar in the stretched section.

So far they seem to work well. There are bound to be some complexities, and I haven't used them enough yet to find out if or where they break.

This is true (AFAIK). If you need accurate take-offs you may need to stick with the old way. There might be some tricky workarounds, but I haven't looked into that yet.

Complex profiles are the buggiest part of AC10 IMHO, along with parametric titles and direct drawing referencing. There's plenty of things going wrong with them right now:

Link is right that the profiles can be tricky and are in need of some fixes/improvements. So far my clients and I have been using them with few problems, but as with any new and complex feature I recommend to take it slow and keep it simple. That is: use them when you have to, try them where you want to, but don't overdo it.

I've actually found they work quite well, they are just VERY lightly documented so you have to guess a lot.

The biggest problems I have had have been doors and windows finding their proper location relative to the current story. Most object 2D scripts cannot seem to handle it. However, in "projected" mode, they work fine.

Don't let a few problems with one feature keep you from enjoying all the other improvements in AC10. As Tom and I have said, the profiles work quite well on the whole, but if the issues worry you just don't use them for now.

I think what we need more than a service pack is an addedum to the manual, something along the lines of "Profiles in Archicad 10"

Yes! It would go a long way to easing the way into using them. Perhaps with some notes as to current limitations and known bugs.
