This seems to have something to do with the complexity of the model. The memory threshold for keeping the shadows may be lower in 22.

<T>One of the most pleasant surprises of version 21 was the fact that shadows stayed when viewing the model in 3d "explore model" mode. In 22, I'm seeing some strange behavior with this: shadows will initially remain visible in the explore mode, but if I exit explore mode and then go back in, the shadows are no longer there. Has anybody else noticed this?</T>

To be honest, I turned off shadows for 'working' views in 3D in 21, makes navigating the model a lot smoother.

Whatever quality improvements are there, are taxing.

We do not have 22 yet in NL, but I don't think it will have improved.

I do have a low / high detail 3D style (no shadows) in 21 as well, so apparantly you can do more than just turn off shadows to change the quality, maybe a lower quality but with shadows works for you.
