<T>I am trying to figure out how to make a balister with the Profiler tool in Archicad 14 and can't get it work.
In ArchiCAD 14 you could make a complex profile for wall of a little less than half of the baluster. Draw a circular wall with the complex profile with a radius equal to the bit you substracted from half. You will end up with two half circle walls.

The profiler tool should probably work too, but this way it is a lot easier to make edits to the shape by modifying the complex profile.
The Profiler instruction are here: Profiler Instructions, but I agree with Erwin's advice. You can always save the Profiled Wall as an Object.
I had previously read through these instructions, and they don't make any sense.

I also made a wall profile with the balister section, but to get a small object like a balister to work correctly, you have to do many points around the "circle cross section" in plan. The final result in elevation is seeing multiple vertical lines in the balister.

Works here (Profile Manager, AC 14). Try posting some images of the profile and results to better explain your issue.
For anyone else that may need to know the steps for creating a more complex column or balister, I have made a PDF showing the steps for doing this at:
