align texture on shell

I created a barrel roof with a shell, but i can't align the texture. i can select the shell, design>align 3d texture>set direction, and it tells me to click on a surface, and i do but nothing happens.

It is a current limitation of the Shell tool. We do have this wish in our internal database and I will add your post to the notes. However, if you would like to strengthen the wish I would recommend that you post a Wish in the Wishes area of the forum under Construction Wishes.
- My recommendation is to make a copy of the shell and place it on a hidden layer for safe-keeping (in case you want to edit the shape once more using the shell methods), then convert the copy into a Morph.
- Morph elements are the most advanced in terms of surface editing. Also, they have advanced techniques for re-shaping, but in some cases you might want to start again from the original shell, which is why I recommend to keep it on a hidden layer.

Thanks NCornia, i'll do that. seems odd to create a tool that uses textures, but not allow you to edit them. oh well.
