Black screen in 3D window

In AC 8.1, when I go to 3D window, I normally see model. But when I turn camera, whole window is black and I don't see anything. When I finish move with camera, I see model again. But it's too hard to find best view, when you don't see model during camera move :[

Time to restart ArchiCAD. I get this in OpenGL mode sometimes, too.

how do you mean restart AC? Of course I tried quit AC and startup again and even I restarted whole computer. Nothing helped

Switch to internal engine for the 3D and see if you get the same result.

Internal engine is ok. Surely it is a problem with openGL. I use AC 8 and OpenGL for a long time and I never had this problem.

All I can say is it has happened to me before. It is sometimes a mystery glitch in OpenGL and sometimes I have the sun turned off.

This is a Graphics Card problem. Get the latest drivers for your graphics card and install them. If this doesn't work, then you need to turn down the acceleration setting in windows(control-panel->display->advanced->troubleshooting)
Try taking it down chunk by chunk until the problem is fixed. if neither of these solutions work, then it's time to buy a new graphics card(yay!)

He's on mac.
It can't just start hapening because a driver is old.
There's a memory leak or something - I have this intermittently, but a restart usually fixes it.

The 32 mg could be overstressed - try making your 3D window half the size and see....

You say that it worked fine for ages in 8. Have you just upgraded to 8.1 and had the problemm start, or has 8.1 been working for a while, and is only now causing problems?

Wow,
it's ok now. I made 3D window smaller and it works. I now, that 32 Megs is not enough and therefore I will buy ATI Radeon 9700 Pro MAC with 128 MB. I hope that will be fine:)

OpenGL seems to have a threshold - 64megulons is it. The 128 gives you this for two displays.... so don't overdo it.

Gudday,

I recently had this problem, and it was a real frustration, not being able to use the 3D OpenGL window! I use it all the time.

I tried the Internal Engine mode and it worked fine, but does not have the same effect for showing clients or for working with. When I did open in OpenGL, the window was black and would lock up AC in about 15 seconds. The file was OK if I just didn't open the 3D window using OpenGL.

I installed the latest video drivers off the net (ATI Radeon 9000 128MB) and it was working again.

I love how a 3D model in a program so hefty can whirl so smoothly with such brilliant effect (on myself and clients!).
And then the plans can be generated from that same model without needing redrawing in a separate CAD package.
All this was something that caught me up right back at the start!
