<T>see attached.
We have a 200MB Teamwork file in AC17. I've downloaded ALL the updates and STILL this "grid bug" issue is hindering production.

We simply "cant" continue to reupload and refresh the TW file with a new PLN each time the grids stop functioning???? GS please advise.</T>

This is not a bug. When you Share a project and it becomes a Teamwork file, the Structural Grid is probably being Reserved. If you will select the Structural Grid, Reserve it for yourself, and then hit Send&Receive it will be Editable for you in the Teamwork file.

It this is not the case, then there are some other options but you can have an Editable Structural Grid in a Teamwork file, no problem.

If you have everything Reserved, then try to Release everything- Send& Receive and see if that does it.

It works for me so it is not a bug

In a test I just did, all that was needed to make the grid fully editable was to hit the Reserve button, and then Reserve Elements.

Steve,
I've tried it before, "WITH" a fellow GS tech doing a screen sharing session. We went thru all your steps, all of them.
The "grid object" would not allow me to edit it nor delete it nor move it. It was simply "greyed out"......so there's some 'bug' in the grid object.

I'll give it one more shot per your suggestions and will post what it looks like when I do this.....

I see that it is only the vertical grids that are not editable.
Did you check to see if it is a grouping or something than is causing the problem?

If may be faster to turn off the layer and make a new grid in the Teamwork file.
Then work on finding what the problem is later. ?

Good luck with it.

I was thinking the same thing.

Rob, maybe you could try deleting the misbehaving Grid Elements by CTRL-X (cutting them from the project) and then inserting them back again using CTRL-V.
If that doesn't solve it you could delete them and then recreate them.
Both of these suggestion are based on the assumption that these elements may be corrupt and that is what is causing these issues.

But let me ask you another question: why do you need to keep modifying those Grid Elements? I would think that Grid Elements are some of those elements in a Project that hardly ever change. They are created at the beginning of the Project, then normally they do not much change throughout the project (of course they might need to be changed once or twice, but if they keep getting changed that is too bad for the project as a whole).

Let me see if I can answer these questions.

I've tried to delete, unlock, ungroup, Ctrl-X, physically move, etc... the offending grids and NOTHING will allow me to remove them from the project. I can't delete them, move them, edit them, they are simply "greyed" out and have a status of "availble for reservation" YET...when I try to TO reserve them....NOTHING. I can't do ANYTHING to the offending grids.
This morning I had to RESHARE a 200MB PLN file back up t the server. it took me TWO HOURS of wasted time to do this BECAUSE these grids go bad.
Now....justifying this behaviour to my employer will get me fired......I CAN'T keep resharing the file and the time it will take to reshare EACH time the grids go bad will become longer and longer.

With regards to the question on "why does the grid change".....well, you'd have to understand the person I'm working for. Seems MICROCHANGES are occuring which are very fussy to deal with and each time something appears to be SET IN STONE....it's requested of me to CHANGE an element 2" to the left, 1-1/2" down, make the fonts, from a 5 to a 5.25 size...etc...so you need to be in my shoes with this particular client. He's very very fussy about how "things" need to look....which is why these changes are happening at this stage of the game.

Anyhow.....I've just RESHARED, once again....the PLN file. Let's see how long the "grids" behave this time.

Yes, I am more and more considering this method.
Seems ridiculous to have to upload and entire 200MB BIM PLN file to share it onto a TW environment just because some grids are misbehaving.

The only thing is is that NOW if I remove those grid objects...there are dimensions that are tagged to those grids and, well, they will too disappear....and to keep track of where/when/which dims changed would be a horrible effort.

So....I'm hoping the "grid objects" stop offending.....or I'm going to have to start invoicing Graphisoft for time lost

Steve,
while I appreciate your commentaries......I've been with GS's best tech's on the horn numerous times about this "grid" issue and even THEY cant' seem to figure this one out.

With regards to 'your' files....well, they aren't the same files I'm using so we can't compare "bananas to grapefruits" can we.

I'm tellin' ya...I'd love nothing better than to have these grids be workign properly but they are simply NOT working as they should.

With regards to the internet speeds, well, my system is fast enough but you aren't aware of the all the nuance conditions that exist on this project and how it was initially setup (which was not the best way to set it up...but that's neither here nor there)....so I'm sure in your frame of reference...sure the grids are working because it's not the SAME TW file you are working on as I am.

thanks for your observations.

I just did a speedtest on my machine....am I reading this right? Steve..your's says 109Mbps download? Mine is stating 15Mbps download? are these the same numbers here? Is my Mbps the same units as your Mbps?
Not to get off subject but....I was right...there is a diff between MBps and Mbps.....Megabyte and Megabit...

MBps is an abbreviation for Megabytes per second, whereas Mbps is an abbreviation for megabits per second. Eight megabits equal one Megabyte. These abbreviations are commonly used to specify how much data can be transferred per second between two points. In some cases, mbps is used as an abbreviation for megabits per second; however, the lowercase m technically means "milli" not "mega," so it doesn't really mean the same thing.

Steve wrote:
Keep in mind Rob...the girds don't behave like that for the rest of us.
Also, to upload that for me would be 2 min. on a slow day.
And to download it would be around 13 seconds.
And I am not paying for the fastest internet connection available.
Get a faster internet connection?

May be it doesn't work that way. ?

1 MB = 8 Mbps

This is the same test you used. Yes, you are slower than molasses in January
And this is all wireless. I get a little faster connection with my computer plugged into the router.

I could get much faster but it costs more.
